The only possible explanation could be he was trying to distract the Arsenal player, but even then it's an insane move.

He had an Arsenal players arms round him when the ball came in, they let go just at the right time to avoid a possible foul. But was Jake instinctively appealing? Or instinctively making his own jump look restricted to show the ref the foul? Can’t have been a deliberate action.

Sadly the Arsenal player had let go, so he looked incredibly stupid.
