Played quite a disiplined role today, sat deep and just kept things ticking over. He's a fantastic footballer really, he's only going to get better and better.

Still got a few rough edges but the more he plays the more he'll develop in the role.

Not many though. Today he was always available for the pass, very rarely lost the ball and never wasted a pass.

We had something like 79% pass completion today, wonder what his individual stats were.

Technically and physically he's already there, it's more to do with his positioning (off the ball) and his agression for me. He's still a little laid back and at times he fails to pick up runners.

That's only natural though, he's only been playing centre midfield for 2-3 years at most. He'll iron small things like that out the more experienced he gets and the more he plays.

And he made 52 passes during the Blackburn game and completed 87% of his passes.

Thats pretty amazingly awesome

I'd have him kneecapped and confined to a wheelchair for life rather than let that happen.

That's just sick, you stupid twisted person:@

ratcliff said in the aek game that alot of people at the club say he is the best youngster to come though in the last 10 years!!! or somthing like that!

and im begining to agree more every time i watch the lad!

ok rooney but hes a striker and its a bit easier to get seen at a young age in that postion imo!

but rodwell playing cm in the prem at 17/18 and looking ace is alot harder imo!

fabregas gets raved about but im going to say rodwell is going to be just as good if not better!

No he doesn't. Otherwise he would be playing him as a centre back and not as a midfielder general who is basically taking the piss.

Ahem.

Everton FC News: David Moyes hails his Euro star Jack Rodwell and hoping to sign four new players before the transfer window closes - Chester Chronicle

specifically
Three times manager of the year said:
Moyes added: “I have said that maybe in years to come he can turn into a centre-back but at this moment he is a central midfielder, otherwise I might have put him at centre-back tonight.

At this point I think Moyes persists with his 'Rodwell is a center back' line to dull press talk of us having the new Steven Gerrard breaking into our team - the Mail called him 'Frank Lampard's natural successor' after he scored against Germany in the U21 Euros in the summer.

That kind of hype won't help Rodwell or the club, Moyes is just being smart about it.

People may say we need we need Investment to keep Players like this.

I believe we turn this crappy attitude, and say

"We need players like this to get us investment"

Viscious circle, but it is my circle and I say NO

Means nothing. You don't play an 18 year old kid in midfield if you see him as a centre back. He is putting him in that position in midfield because he's ******* mustard there and Moyes knows it.

He goes back to centre back and he's wasted.

The clue was in "three times manager of the year" but you wouldn't have it.
You are wrong, Moyes has said throughout Rodwell's Career that he is a CB, and I trust Moyes with regards the Everton Squad before I trust any fan or any tens of thousands of fans. Pardon my logic.
And although the following is not perfect proof, it is a step toward...
Player to Watch :: Jack Rodwell

Do you think he'll step back into defence?

I can't see it myself, he's impressing too much as a midfielder.

People talk about Rio Ferdinand but Ferdinand was never a full time 'midfielder' at professional level and he never moved back, he was always a centre back.

It doesnt matter, he would clearly be wasted at Centre Half. On the way Home Sharpy made a good point on the radio, he said could you imagine Rodwell coming up against somebody like Drogba playing CB, he would get ripped to shreds.

Hes going to be huge player, as he bulks up and gets older he could very well play at CB, but I think he has already shown he can pick a pass and shoot, he can basically be what he wants to be, I can see him playing CM tho. A true box to box midfielder.

Its early days, but its hard not to get carried away by the boy.

I am just a fan. I do not see him every work day. What I have a feeling about is that he could go to the Olympics in 2012 and possibly be captain. There are clubs that will not want to pay after that what they could have paid before.
Moyes has spoken of Rodwell as a Centre Back since day one, maybe it is wishful thinking on the part of Moyes, or Maybe it is some esoteric (RosWell) plot to fool the masses. I do not believe Moyes is such a bad character of defender or player.
Jags and Jack Centre Back. Heard it here first.
