Some players provide more than just captain ability, some players demand standards from those around them, think Keane, Vieira, Reid.
Ideally it'd be nice to have eleven captains out there, but we must be realistic.

Agreed but ideally, however, we'd have players that demand standards of others but also have quality on the pitch themselves. Like all of the examples you used above.

If we sign him I am more concerned more about what that tells us about our new Yank overlords.

I don’t think anyone wants us to go sign big inflated “marquee” players just make a statement.

What I would like is to sign young hungry players which says to the fans we are going to build a young hungry team.
