2025/26 Jack Grealish

I don't think it's his top end pace per se which would concern me, more his acceleration off the mark as he's still able to get away from full backs with his standing start acceleration. He's been brilliant, but there's definitely going to need to be a sensible conversation had about what Grealish would want in terms of length of deal and wages.

i think Grealish has shown he thinks a little differently to a lot of footballers

call me naive but I’m sure he’d rather stay here and be adored, earn a high but not silly wage, and get surrounded by even better players than move to saudi and get paid mega bank

I’m confident of us keeping him on a permanent deal

It’s less the cost than the sunk value. It’s one thing spending £40m on a 24 y/o player whose value increases or stays the same, this is £20m of lost funds. In fact with contract value its likely to be closer to £45-£50m with zero scope to off set the loss through future sales.

All that said if TFG are happy to spend that and continue funding for other players, then bring it on.
If however it has the potential to leave us hamstrung for a couple of seasons I’m less convinced.

but what if jack grealish staying next year gets us into europe and gets us a trophy?

i shudder to think of how this season would be going without him

So 15m wages savings plus 2m makes 17m.

If his book price is 16.6m that shows a profit of 400k on their books.

Is my understanding.
Its to do with the fact in the previous years accounts if a player was worth 20m, and in the next years accounts you`ve cashed in on that same player for just 2m, you`d put that difference of 18m down on a loss for the sale.

He was signed for 100m on a 6 year contract, which is 16.6m a year book value, on 1st July 2025 his book value is 16.6m, so they sell him 2m, which means they would lose 14.6m, but then they no longer have to pay his wages, he earns around 15m a year, which leaves them a profit of 400k.

So whilst they do indeed make a loss on his book value, they would recoup that loss with his wages.

So if City give us Jack plus £2m, they make £2.4m profit?
It's like buying money this transfer lark.
