2025/26 Jack Grealish

Much as i love what he’s done for us, £20m and in all likelihood at least £150k / week for 3+ years feels a bit of a mistake to me 🤷‍♂️.

Not sure about his injury record so maybe he can perform at the same level at 33 but feels risky.
I guess he’s not reliant on out and out pace so that’s plus in so much as he wouldn’t lose pace as a key facet of his performance.

jack grealish is worth more to us
than not playing for us the end
regards matt

This notion that Pep restricts players in complete nonsense. He restricted Messi did he? Or David Silva and KDB ? Some of the greatest players the world has ever seen have flourished under Pep. The ones with the huge egos who thought they were better than the team got dumped, and you can't deny the results. As for being the best manager, his results and records speak for themselves. His teams have done things thought impossible. No team has ever got 100 points in the Prem until Pep. No team has ever done 4 in a row, not Liverpool in their pomp or the rags with the GPC at the helm. Domestic treble ? what the GPC called "the impossible treble" check. Two trebles at different clubs ? check. Record after record broken and pundit after pundit proved wrong time and again.
Has any other manager been handed things on a plate the way he has?

Promoted to barca manager just as messing comes along and builds a team around the barca academy....

Goes to Germany where bar a freak season bayern usually win everything regardless of whose in charge....

Goes to city and handed a pretty much unlimited war chest....

Not going to deny hes very, very good...but he could and should probably have been better given the circumstances...

How many times has his arrogance seen him refuse to try a plan b?

How many times has refused to alter clear weaknesses in his teams

20 million gets you nothing these days though...

Even a speculative punt from the championship costs more than that

Not entirely accurate there.

Messi was in the Barca team 4 years before Guardiola took over as 1st team coach, so he was pretty well established.

The academy prospects broughthrough such as Busquets and Pedro, Guardiola managed them at b team level and brought them over.

Guardiolas success was down to the fact he sifted through the wreckage of Rijkaards last year, off loading the likes of Deco and Ronaldonho to allow Messi, Infestation and Xabi to take centre stage.

So no, it wasn't luck, it was Guardiolas skill that brought that era of Barca dominance about.

It’s less the cost than the sunk value. It’s one thing spending £40m on a 24 y/o player whose value increases or stays the same, this is £20m of lost funds. In fact with contract value its likely to be closer to £45-£50m with zero scope to off set the loss through future sales.

All that said if TFG are happy to spend that and continue funding for other players, then bring it on.
If however it has the potential to leave us hamstrung for a couple of seasons I’m less convinced.

Every manager in the world buys players to suit their prefered system. Pep is the only one critisized for it. Of course he has an ego, no bigger than that of any other manager. You need a big personality to manage big players. Those 3 players you mention ? Once Pep got rid he turned Barca into the greatest club side the world had ever seen. But his haters will always hate and there will always be a caveat behind any paise. It's pathetic.Lets not pretend he isn't the greatest manager the world has ever seen. He entitled to a bit of ego.
He’s not going to shag you mate

Well I could throw the same insult back at you but I’ll just say I honestly think you are clutching at straws if you think Grealish’s pass to Garner was a genuine assist and leave it that way.
“Clutching at straws” meaning abiding by the definition of assist used by everyone but you.

1. Regular Pass Assist
The most common type of assist is simply a well-timed pass that leads directly to a goal. This could be a short, simple ball played through a tight space to a teammate in front of goal, or a long, accurate ball launched from midfield. What matters here is that the pass is the last action before the goal, and the recipient is in a position to score.

Pep is very overrated. The amount of times he's sabotaged the Sportwashers in the 'Champions League' with his overly tactical set up and tinkering is well known. Whilst he's undoubtedly a world class coach I laugh when I hear him described as the GOAT or a genius by the sycophantic media
