See this is where I say something unpopular, I think Fellaini needs a midfielder to sit deeper than him. He's excellent at destroying moves and winning balls so people think he's defensive but he doesn't have the discipline needed to sit deep because he likes to get around and break up moves higher up the pitch (which is great because it means we break quickly when he wins it but it also means he gets beaten by runners so we need a player behind him to mop up). I wouldn't be comfortable playing him and Barkley behind Osman or Kev.

You'd either get us being exposed like we were for the last half an hour of the Villa game or Barkley will be forced too deep like Mikel was and he'll be neutered.

Barkley sitting in front of Gibson and Fellaini is the ideal scenario. Diminished responsibility for Ross, Fellaini destroying without hinderance and Gibson keeping the ball moving and tracking the men the big man missed.

Would be a great signing, Howards 33 now so keep him as 1st choice for the next 2 seasons and then bring Butland into the 1st team, can see he being loaned back to Birmingham straight away though if we do sign him
