Done my ankle in, ligaments are ruptured.
Any advice for a speedy 9 month recovery?

The medical advice- "Go easy on it". Thanks for that!

Do just that "Go easy on it". You may recover in less than 9 months. Some individuals recover quicker than others. Hope you have a quick recovery lad.

wow, i just got away with that myself. the first diagnosis was 3 ligments snapped and a broken bone. after the ankle swelling went down it turned it to a 'very bad sprain' and i only have to wear a plaster cast for 4 weeks. god i hate crutches.

it's a nasty injury to have.

have you ruptured all three ligaments? i guess you got lucky and avioded broken bone.

RICE is ofcourse the initial treatment. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

than you have to find a comortable set of crutches and get busy with blanket baths.

what were you doing when you did it?

I think Yakubu did his Achilles tendon? Anyway, if it's that or similarly incapacitating, follow that advice. Don't try to do things before the doctors tell you, and do make a serious effort to go to all the physio they prescribe you and do the exercises as frequently as they tell you to do them.

I know. Boring answer, and dancing on the table at the night-long party sounds tempting, or climbing up the hill behind the beach on Crete won't really hurt it, will it? But it's only when you get old and boring that you appreciate the wisdom sometimes.

I was playing in a 5 aside league.
I went over on it, knew it was bad. Twisted inwards.
No broken bones, been lucky to have never broke a bone in my life.

The big damage is to the anterior talofibular (?) that sits across, just beneath the ankle bone. Also, the achillies took a strain at the same time.

It was actually a few weeks ago now. Everytime I bend my foot you can hear it 'clicking'.

I think I'm just gonna get fat!

I just came out of retirement as well, playing for a veterans team! At this rate, I can resume my career at 42!
So now I know the answer to the question of Life, the Universe and Everything lol

But it's only when you get old and boring that you appreciate the wisdom sometimes.

bingo.

it might be a pain now but just enjoy the time off work.. otherwise regret will never be so painful as it keeps you up every night when you are 80.

Hi Teppic, did you become a crock as well then, what happened with you?

Hard luck mate. Take the advice the others have given, rest and get it properly healed. I did my ankle when I was 22. I was too stupid to take advice, I'm 51 and the thing still clicks like a bad set of false teeth.

Take it easy. (y)

Note that if you did strain the Achilles, then the advice for rest and careful physio goes double, as it is a bugger to heal (because of lack of blood flow, I believe) and you can easily end up with a chronic weakness there.

I did the worst tear of the groin you could do taking a corner in a school match once. My Football career went down from there.

I'm now the Jamie Redknapp of football.

Snapped my left quadricep completely a while back after having to sprint in the middle of winter after my mates dog when it got loose when I was walking the [Poor language removed] - honestly, I thought someone had just fired a shotgun.

Massive, deafening, nauseating snap and then I hit the floor and not surprisingly, threw up due to the pain and the sight of my muscle curled up just below my pelvis... Couldn't stand up for about 3 months then crutches for a few more - luckily I was only 15 so managed to recover much faster than I would now!... No long term damage other than it still feels more solid (like a big solid lump) than my other one.

same you, pal.

5-a-side sharp turn and my ankle went under me as i was standing on the edge of a divot.

it swelled up like a tennis ball before i even got to A&E but one more week of crutches and i'm a free man again.
