It's the snooker aspect, how many levels of the game into question because of who he could have been asking/threatening to behave. Imagine he had a hotline to league one where players were getting booked/sent off in the same games. It's similar in concept to the cricket fiasco's we've seen of dot balls bowled etc.

To be fair the rule is absolute crap. Betting on your own games etc I agree with but having a 5 team acca on league 1 games etc I don’t have an issue with. He broke the rules so gets a ban but the rules are crap.

Its open to interpritation!
For example, Toney used to play for Peterbrough and i'm guessing still has ffiends there.
He could easily get insider information of an injury or manager rotation or even worse, know a player whos prepared to take a booking for a few extra quid.

I think the ban is harsh considering what other players have got for racism or violent conduct in the past.

10-12 games would of sufficed, i think thats what Trippier got!

played in both matches against us and didn’t do much, but he’s scored 20 goals this season, affecting games, results and positions at the top and bottom of the table - hatrick against Leeds; brace against city - how can they ban him when there are still games to play? I would have thought that would be something the affected club’s lawyers would be prepping action against!

I have known football was knackered and well gone for a number of years but this episode has confirmed it - zero integrity in the competiton following this farce.

He will have contacts within those teams where he can potentially influence things, and inside information as well. Not saying he does, but that is why he can't do this. He could bet on the horses or boxing if he needs his gambling fix but chose football for some reason.

One happened in 1964 and it was a betting ring/scandal that enforced change of the actual rules regarding betting and insider influence. It was harsh, but also it was about 60 years ago like lol also about 10 players were jailed and never played in England again; Kay went on to more crime as well.

The other was 1 player having a betting problem with no (public) proof of what and how exactly the betting occurred. If he was sitting at home with a betting app on his phone - how do you even compare?

Andros Townsend was also banned for a bit for betting. Shock and horror when he wasn't in jail or hanged and quartered.

It is a joke of a sentence for Toney here but only because the FA waited until the season was over and Brentford were safe for literally no reason. Should've investigated and banned him ASAP to make a statement.
