Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Is it? In what respect(s)?
Because 6 months earlier, before the official date of the founding of Israel, Jewish paramilitary had started the ethnic cleansing of palastinians land.
The Arab country neighbours could well see the disaster that would unfold.
They had a right to defend their people.

What happened was a lot messier. In its early phases, what would become called a 'war' was a Hatfield-McCoy escalating cycle of terror and counter-terror, and kicked off after the UN resolution for partition. The Israelis then became more organized, and reached a position where they thought they could issue a declaration of independence without being crushed. Neighboring Arab states showed up the next day, and it turned out the Israelis were right.

Saying the Arabs started that war is a bit like saying Britain started the Revolutionary War over here. You can say that about Russia and Ukraine, as Ukraine never violates Russian territorial sovereignty in 2014 or 2022. What happened in 1775 and 1948 were the results of classic conflict spirals, where both sides know it's coming and neither can back down.

Jewish "terrorisst" groups were operational in the year leading up to the the eventual end of the mandate and some form of independence. There was mutual violence ... none of it very edifying. The great non - event Arab army wasn't put into the field as a gallant attempt to libertae the poor Palestinians. Far from it. Jordan and Egypt were both in it for what they could get in terms of land and influence.

Had the Arabic war succeeded, the new slogan would have been, "From the river to the sea, Palastine is a newly acquired Jordanian province giving access to the Mediterranean Sea."

Not quite as catchy as the current model.

Like many / most significant military events, the 1948 / 49 war has a whole back story, full of disappointing nuance, paranoia, error and sheer greed. None of which sits comfortably within the need for clear heroes and villains that so many people seem to have. On balance, historians see the Arab venture as misguided, catastrophically executed and leaving a legacy of mistrust.

A perfidious Israeli plot it ain't.

How is he my mate when I've called the man a thug and a monster umpteen times?

This is why you're never taken seriously mate.

🤷‍♂️
Everyone can see what you are, and to be honest, it is rather repulsive.

I am all for a bit of teasing regarding light, harmless topics such as footy but what you choose to do in the CA has been in very poor taste.

The innocent people of Palestine/Israel, Ukraine and those in the UK suffering Tory wickedness should be shown kindness and understanding, not the gloating and trolling that you have chosen to destroy the @davek name with.

In the years that I have been on GOT I have not put anyone on ignore, but you're getting close to being in a club of one.

101 United Nations workers killed so far in Gaza alone - RTE news showed UN holding a minute's silence. 😢
Added to the fifty that had been killed through the end of September around the world, that shifts the UN from one of their better years since the end of the Cold War to one of their five worst. I don't think they've ever lost that many in a month, and I'll trust Gutierrez's word on that one since they have the stats.

I can't think of any conflict, ever, where almost one percent of the fatalities were UN employees. A lot of their personnel are Gazans due to the unemployment rate, and they're getting hammered the same as all the other civilians.

In happier times, before I retired, I spoke at climate meetings in that UN building in Geneva. Lovely, historic place - now so full of sadness.

Right to self-defence includes killing UN peace workers it seems.
