I disagree.

Robles = untested
Hibbert = not played in a very long time
Baines = out for 6 weeks
Gibson = out for yonks
Heitinga = not played in a very long time
Jagielka = yes
Jelavić = gone pants
Oviedo = yes
Koné = out for yonks
Deulofeu = loanee
Mirallas = yes
Naismith = yes
Distin = yes, but nearing end of career
McCarthy = yes
Lukaku = loanee
Barry = loanee
Gueye = not good enough
Barkley = yes
Osman = yes
Pienaar = yes
Coleman = yes
Howard = yes

Stones = potential yes
Vellios = not played in a very long time
Kennedy = not played yet
Alcaraz = not played yet
McAleny = not played yet

The "yes" meaning proper squad players who we'd have in the team in a shot. I count 11 currently available. That's a first-team then...it's not a squad.

A better question is...

Is our squad better than last season's?

Which incidentally was our best squad since we last won the league.

And I believe the answer is yes.

Granted key players are on loan, but nevertheless this is the best Everton squad in my lifetime certainly.

The best Everton squad I've seen is the 08/09 season when we got to the FA Cup Final. Jagielka, Arteta and Yakubu all missing the final took it's toll.

I suppose it depends which way you look at it. If you think of solely the players that we own, then I'd say no. But those three loanees are in the squad, so it's a possible yes from me.

They are at the moment though...

if we're including the borrowed players, then there's a decent argument we're fielding an 11 as strong as the 07/08, 04/05 or 95/06 teams. Squadwise, even with the loanees, we're a bit skinny on quality replacements.

They have the potential to be at least as good. Strength in depth is still a question as the game is now more about the squad than back in 84/85. I can see it though. It's going to be interesting to see how we keep hold of our best players and build the squad up in the next few seasons.

I was born in '87 and believe this is the best Everton team I've ever seen. Unfortunately, it's also a season with the most parity in the premiership that I can remember. The top four race is wide open!

I agree with the first part, but I think the top 3 is sorted. Arse, Chelsea and Citeh are too powerful, they collect so many 3-points when they just nonchalantly blow those bottom-12 teams away, with their 3-0's and that.

The other contenders: us, shyte, Moyes's red army and Spuds, are about on the same level. All capable of dropping points on a semi-regular basis.

It's 4th spot that's wide-open. Top 3 is sorted, in my opinion.

Southampton have started well but have a very tough schedule heading into the new year. Newcastle also have looked impressive the past three weeks. I could see either of those two plus the teams you mentioned finishing in that fourth spot.

Aye, I really don't see Newcastle or Saints lasting the distance.
