Is spending money always the answer?

Its seems like Everton has to spend a huge chunk of money to satify their supporters. Most of the topics are about how much money Everton FC should use to get us new players. And if the board doesn't spend enough, their are labeled as "idiots".

Why aren't there threads about how to improve current players? Are Ossi, Arteta, Baines already finished products , or can Moyes get them to another level ? Why aren't there threads about how Moyes can improve the squad as a unit by developing better tactics, better training methods etc. ?

And, buying new players are always a gamble; remember Bob Balaban at Aston Villa, Koldrup, Saha at Man. U. etc. Expensive players with very little contribution to their teams. Cheap unknown players can often be an instant hit; remember Cahill, Lescott and Carsley ?

And, it's not about how much we are paying, is all about getting the right player that fits the bill. Prem League is not a contest about which club can spend most money, but which club can win most games.

And, if the board has just 15 mill to spend, they can't spend 16 mill?? Bill W isn't an idiot just because he doesn't have the money that Roman has. It's all about spending what you can afford. And Everton doesn't have a Roman nor a Thai millionare. The club must generate the income through gates, merchandise, sponsors and the SKY deal.

So get of Bills and Moyes' back. They are doing their best.

Quick answer to the thread title, no. Just ask Newcastle. Good post, perhaps you should put together an analysis of the squad saying where each player could improve and what improvement you believe is possible? I would, but i'm too lazy and don't watch them enough!

There's only so much bargain basement shopping Moyes can do. If we want to move to the next level we need to buy better quality. We need more players in the Yakubu/Arteta/Lescott bracket if we are going to do this.

If we don't start spending then we will stand still and not progress. Every season we'll be battling for 10th-5th. Personally I want more than that.

Moyes has proven he's good in the transfer market. Give him more money and he'll make us even better. We've got the manager, we've got a good base of player and we've got the fanbase but we don't have the Chairman.

Bill has taken as far as he can go. Unless he steps down and we get someone else in we will always be the nearly men. We are a team on the up but at the moment there's only so far we can progress.

Yeah but mate, to some naive fans, the only answer is money money money. Comes from a materialistic age.

Sure money helps, but without a doubt trophies are won and lost in two areas.

Certainly there is a common perception that in order to compete at the top level you'll need to spend some big bucks to get the top level players. Obviously, it takes more than money to build a winning squad and there are no shortage of examples out there of teams that tried and failed. In the end, the team still needs a style of play and you need players that can operate within that style and with the other players. The great managers can find players and utilize them in new ways (position or style) and be successful. I'm sure it is a combination of knowing what the player is capable of and then teaching them just what you want to the point that they can execute on that consistently. In this day and age of computerized player grading where every facet of a players game is scrutinized it still take a human eye to spot just the right combination of talent and intangibles that are needed to make a winning team.

I actually think that Moyes doesn't have to spend big to make an improvement to the squad this year.

The Knicks are only allowed to spend free agent money on certain players becasue of a salary cap. So that's why they suck. If they didn't have a cap Kobe Bryant and LeBron James would be making 40 million/year playing for them.

But yes, sadly, money is almost always the answer. Chelsea and Utds reserves make more than our starting 11 i bet.

what it is , is we are wanting big name players to say they want to come here and that costs big money, in a way its recognition that we are a big club if the big names come.
say we got in c.l. we arent gonna win the thing , yet some would expect us to go out and spend an amount to try and win the thing when in reality its the group stage we would need to aim for to get the money. you could go out and spend then get the hardest team in the qualifier or even a bent ref and then its money wasted.
although i would love us to win the uefa its a bit of a waste of time at the moment as the prize money is rubbish, but maybe thats the way we want football to be, the prestige of winning the goblet, not the money you can get.
we need to get in cl and i dont reckon we are too far away, we were unlucky with injuries at the end of the season and rs were lucky, until we went out of the uefa , 4th was ours to lose and we did.
we just need to strengthen the squad and i dont mean star players to replace others we have, keep aj and get replacements for the ones that have left, and give vdm a nursemaid to keep an eye on him if its his temprement thats the problem.

Its better to have something like £50 mil available and only spend 10 than to have only 10 available in the first place though.

Spending all of that £50 mil on big name players is no more likely to bring success than spending 10 on championship players if they aren't the right players for Everton Football Club.

Fact is there are only so many bargains out there, eventually the proven better players with the bigger prices who are way more likely to take this club higher are going to be needed.

Fair comment mate,in the past before all the cash came into the game managers could improve players by say 10% which turned average teams into championship contenders sadly now it will not work as you can only improve players so much and the really top players follow the cash, the I need to play champions league really means unless you pay top dollar wages forget it.Chelsea are your typical cash club they have no grace,no respect yet players sign for them knowing they will be bit part players while if they went elsewhere they would play nearly every game.I dont blame them its human nature and they will get medals as well even if some what undeserved.

Money is the key to break the top 4. We have a superb starting base, am not doubting that, but that's come from one thing: David Moyes.

He has built our team up to a 5th placed team but needs the money to move on. And how are you going to bring in quality players? Money.
