I think we were aiming for break even this transfer window, but Mosh's money means we can afford to buy first and risk the Barkley's falling through.

It isn't his money - it's an overdraft.

All it means is that we have to sell to repay in January or the summer.

The club lead the hype train, mate.

The club itself coined the slogan 'Nothing will be the same'.

Selling our best players to finance deals feels much the same.

We're not on our own with that either though. The Arsenal Sanchez-Lemar deal was dependent on eachother. Would Barcelona have been going after Coutinho for the kind of money they did if they hadn't sold Neymar?

If your best players want to leave then what can the club do? Look at the situation we're in with Barkley. Poorly handled by all concerned in my opinion but it's getting worryingly close to the player running down his contract and leaving for far less money than we'd want, or for free.

Moshiri and the club absolutely could not allow that situation to develop with Lukaku who we have just pocketed £75-£90m for. As a business decision that would be crazy. My issue with the transfer window is that if (as I assume we are), still on a limited budget with FFP and other factors then why did we choose to spend £40m+ on Sigurdsson and fail to bring in a main striker. Or if we were so intent on bringing in Sigurdsson then why did we also spend £24m on Klaaseen in a similar position?

Other teams kept hold of their best players who wanted to leave.

Lukaku had two years to run and could have been the difference between Champions League and Europa League this season. We still would have got £50m+ for him next season.

We had no issues with FFP this season.

Since Moshiri came in, we have lost/about to lose: Stones, Lukaku and Barkley.

He said they were the jewels in our Crown who we need to build around when he first bought the club.

He has sold them all of and just reinvested that money to our detriment.

The man is a snake, just like Kenwright.

We kept hold of Lukaku when he had longer left on his contract. When it gets down to 2 or less years it starts to become a worry for the club. In the case of Van Dijk and Coutinho, both have recently signed long term contracts putting a significant amount of power back in to their clubs hands. However, as soon as these players show a real intent to move on to a better proposition, it's just a matter of time before they are sold and there is a hierarchy in football with Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top. Even Barcelona couldn't prevent Neymar from leaving as the offer was too good. That's why we ended up selling Stones when we did, it's why Swansea sold Sigurdsson and why Van Dijk, Sanchez and Coutinho won't be at their current clubs in 2 years time.

People have mentioned the point about Barkley being all but sold. The news coming out from Arsenal/Man City is that the same happened with Sanchez. The deal only didn't happen because Lemar didn't fancy Arsenal.

Man United couldn't prevent Ronaldo from leaving, Liverpool with Suarez and Tottenham with Bale. We held firm with Stones for a year longer and we persuaded Lukaku to stay through 2 years of awful football and midtable mediocrity. It was inevitable that the 2nd highest scorer in the Premier League (3rd the season before) wanted to move on, and we got good money for him. Moshiri can't be blamed for failures that lead to our best players wanting to leave in 2 seasons of mediocrity with no progression when he wasn't even at the club.

Lukaku did an interview saying that he didn't believe Everton were an ambitious club.

Moshiri has failed to sell the vision to these players.

As I said above, he had two years to go, we could have sold him next season for around £60m, only we may have had CL it's his goals.

If Moshiri was serious about making us contenders, which he isn't, he would have kept Lukaku and invested £100m+ into the areas that needed strengthening.

As it stands, he failed to deliver the two players his manager said were critical to how our season goes.

We have another version of Kenwright, time to get your head out of the sand and accept it.

Had deals for Barkley and Niassé, which Moshiri expected, we would have broke even.

Nothing has changed from us being sell to buy.
The telling point for me was signing siggurdson before we sold ross. Clearly he was replacing him in the team but we bought anyway.

I agree it seems we are still not doing more than selling to buy and the evidence on deadline day points to that. But credit where credit is due, we replaced a player before selling him rather than the other way around, that is surely progress

You appear to be saying that although we didn't sell and bought, we are a sell to buy club.

If that's the case, how exactly would we ever not be a sell to buy club?

It would be, if there wasn't a HUGE gaping hole from when we sold Lukaku before replacing him.

Love the fact that even though we had a 45m net spend, the argument has moved to "well, IF we had sold 2 more players we'd have broke even".

Just shows that no-one will ever win the Net spend argument, as people will either point to deals that could have happened to change the net spend, or just say that next window it will be different and move it on another 6 months.

Moshiri expected to recoup the outlay, and he will, one way or another.
So who did we sell to fund the Sigurdsson purchase then?

Hardly surprising is it that a billionaire accountant expects to get a return on his outlays?

I'm not saying he's investing in the team but to claim nothing has changed is patently untrue. Some people have short memories.
