Look at it another way. His backing enabled us to act 1st and not get pushed around. We have gone out and signed most of transfer targets, including those for u23s, with little fuss, and our squad is stronger for It. The Sigurdsson transfer has dragged on, but I'm confident he'll be an Everton player sooner rather than later.
I don't get this net spend argument 1 bit. If you can strengthen without a massive net spend, surely that is a sensible approach, and especially when the players we are selling have made it perfectly clear they don't want to be here. So what, we should just keep them, not play them, and allow them to leave for nothing when their deals run out, just to prove to other people that we're rich and don't intend on being frugal?
Seems like a plan.
