Effectively, we haven't spent a dime this summer when you factor in the Rom and Deulofeu money and it's concerning the Sigursson deal is stalling, why don't we just pay what they want and get him in? If Southampton want 60m for Virgil van Dijk, what's stopping us going out and getting him as well? I don't get it. And this Cuco signing, he's clearly gonna start right back first game of the season, I'm not happy with that. He's bang average. Don't get me wrong, Moshiri is working wonders. He's cleared the debts and we're on the brink of a fancy new stadium on the docks, I'm still pinching myself about it all but the team comes first. Where are these statement signings or is that what Rooney was? Ignore me, I'm just being a spoiled brat. COYB!

There's nothing stopping us, and that's why I assumed they already did it. Just because you didn't read about an offer doesn't mean we didn't look into it. Personally I doubt the team didn't try to see if VVD would be interested. Ron and him share an agent! Ron already signed him once before! There's just no way that a team trying to add the best players didn't try to sign one of the best available! To me, the obvious conclusion is that VVD, through back-channels, has said he doesn't want to come here. I bet we would pay 70m if it would get him. But it won't.

Current strategy doesn't add up at the moment and I don't like it.

Who we selling next summer for £50+ Million?

None of our current stars are going to cost that much.

Mate, we have a positive spend in 2017, I am failing to see the issue here.

The bedwetters get their NET spend, the team gets improved, the club and infrastructure is improved dramatically....what is the actual problem?

Even if I was to bite at your comment about who will we sell next (which I don't believe that to be the case unless the player actually wants to go as Stones and Lukaku did), who knows, Davies, Lookman, Keane, in 12 months could all be worth 50M plus if they have good seasons.

Imagine what any genuine football fans of other clubs who visit this forum must think of some of the shouts in these sort of threads.

Just think where we have come from in 18 months. On and off the pitch.
4 years ago we came 5th and that summer bought one of the hottest young talents in world football along with another two coming through who were already here.

Lukaku
Mirallas Barkley Deulofeu
Barry McCarthy
Baines Jags Distin Coleman
Howard

Is our current team really any stronger? Even if you take the team Moyes had of Pienaar Arteta Cahill etc. Frankly I think that Moyes team would beat both Martinez's strongest team and our current team quite comfortably. The reality is we haven't really progressed at all. To do that will take dare I say it a positive net spend relative to other teams.

I'm going to wait to see the team this season before I answer that one.

From the above side, the line of 3 behind Lukaku is basically flimsy and wishy washy.

The bottom paragraph is down to scouting not investment.

We got Lukaku in on loan only after we sold Fellaini. On deadline day, we were at the point where we couldn't afford loans, we had to bring Barry in on loan and purchased McCarthy. We then took a large chunk of the following summer to confirm Barry (because of a pre determined clause) and even longer to get Lukaku sorted.

If that's the same as now in your opinion then find a bin and hop in it.

Some of our fans are already 'turning' just like when City got the money.

Moshiri is an intelligent investor, he's not going to blow his personal wealth. We are building strong foundations on and off the pitch.

Ok, it would be nice to bag a marquee signing - but who says this won't happen? Who says we will close on a £0 Net spend?

In case anyone has a go, I am very optimistic about the future of the club and think Moshiri coming in now gives us the much needed platform for us to progress and challenge the so called elite over the next few years. I think he's shown ambition since coming here and is clearly focusing a lot of his efforts in the off the pitch aspect with the Stadium and various other things.

However, as it stands today, I can see the point a little bit about our intent in the transfer window. It has been a relief to see us being proactive early on this summer with the inevitable sale of Lukaku but our policy at the moment does give the doubters something to cling on to. If you look at last season, we seemed to have to wait until the Stones sale went through and then all of a sudden we brought numerous players in. This summer we have gone on a big spending spree, but at the moment, it has mostly been covered by the Lukaku sale. All of a sudden the big spending appears to have stopped and some could argue that we are waiting on selling Barkley before we part with the cash for Sigurdsson.

I could be wrong on that last bit and it's probably more unfortunate than anything that Swansea have decided to dig their heels in so much. If they hadn't and had succumbed to a £30m-£35m bid we may have seen him come in already.

Having said all that, I personally prefer to see the bigger picture and if we don't have a huge net spend it won't concern me that much because we have to be sensible to an extent with our dealings and we are still limited in the players we can bring in until we have the offer of bigger and better things like a realistic chance of winning major honours or competing in the CL. I do think it's vital that we bring in a goal scorer that is proven in this league though of a reasonable age. For me Benteke fits that bill and in 3 of his 5 Premier League seasons has scored 19, 13 and 15 in fairly poor sides. Giroud is another possibility but at 30 has less time left in him, and whether we will be able to get either remains to be seen.
