Is it time for us to replace Howard?

I think it is now time this season to be looking at a proper replacement for Howard. Can't believe Vorm is warming the bench at Spurs. Would have him or maybe Begovic.

I dont think we should replace howard. he has proven to be a decent keeper for us and i am a personal believer in backing your first choice keeper.

He isnt perfect but few keepers are, and when you look at how much Neur / Buffon / Casisas / Coutois level keepers will cost you then you either put youth in goal and hope they are top quality or you back you good keeper and spend that money elsewhere in the team.

Realistically, we're not a club in a position to have a "perfect" goalkeeper. Firstly, perfection in a goalkeeper is a rarity. Secondly, when it does come along they are almost guaranteed to end up at a club playing regularly in the Champions League.

That said, I do think there is better than Howard out there for us now.

There are about 8 good goalkeepers in the world. We can't afford them.

Saying that, Howard's getting on and there are probably better keepers than him within our price bracket. Remove the 'Captain America' internet fanfare and observe the guy's game, it's clear -- bar his performances for the USA and his stellar campaign last year -- that he has always been inconsistent. Keepers make mistakes, sure, but Howard makes a lot of basic ones and doesn't make the difference in a positive way quite enough.

He was good enough for Everton before, but when I look at how our players across the pitch stack up in relation to others across the league, I think it's clear GK is one of our weaker positions. We have one of the top 2 RBs in the league, the best LB in the league, one of the better CBs in Jagielka though unfortunately Distin looks to be over the hill (last season they were formidable though). In CDM Barry and McCarthy are outstanding, Mirallas is one of the most effective wingers out there, Lukaku is the most promising young striker in the league. Eto'o and Barkley are class players, though at different ends of their careers.

We need another wide player and another CB fore sure, but in terms of goalkeepers I'd say there are at least 6-7 in the prem I'd have over Howard. I can't say that about most of our other positions. If we want to improve then Howard isn't good enough, but he is not the worst keeper in the league or even close to that. He's just a bit overrated.

De Gea, Courtois, Begovic, Lloris, Vorm, Adrian, Mannone are 7 keepers that at this point are in better form than Howard.

Half of that list are the type of player that would be available to us - maybe even a Lloris level if we were prepared to pay 10m+ for a keeper from abroad.

I dunno mate but he was Sunderland's player of the year last year.

All right drop him off the list, there's still 6 better than Howard there.
