Today, at the end of school, me and my friend (an rs fan), were walking out of the school. A kid in our soccer class asked my friend if he could borrow his phone. So, he calls his dad and all of a sudden starts talking in a full blown English accent, confusing the hell out of me and my friend. Once he hung up, I asked where he was from and he said (back in his American accent) he is from somewhere in England (I don't remember where he said but it started with a W). He also said that he can switch between an English accent and an American accent really easily.

So my question is, is it easy to talk in an American accent? Whenever an American tries to do an English one they sound Australian.

I think it's easier for an english person to fake an american accent rather than vice versa. Though that may have a lot to do with the never ending stream of TV and film that we are subjected to every day.

An australian accent is just a cockney accent with your nose curled up. Try it, it really works.

You forgot the stripey t-shirt and the leg irons , Heat' .

I have a 'learned' American accent (goes with growing up in the UK), but I can drop from one to the other pretty effortlessly.

He will probably speak with an English accent whenever he talks to any of his relatives/ friends. I met a lad from portsmouth (who amusingly worked as a fitter at Tampax, and his bird worked on quality control) he spoke with a full south coast accent but when talking to his mum on the phone would have a very thick scottish accent.

To sound authentically orrrr-stray-leanne, just ...
  • add, Eh ? on the end of any statement to make it into a question
  • reply... [Poor language removed] yeah or bladdy oath
  • say things like grouse, drongo, bogan, pom.
  • keep referring to 'them fack'n keywee's'
  • generally act a bit numb
  • wear polyester

Southern ain't that tough - it's the slang that will get you.

Regional accents (Minnesota, Chicago, Boston) - them's tough.

The American problem with trying to pull off a British accent is we try to get all stuffy and it doesn't work. One thing I have noticed - Brits are generally very well spoken. No ums or "like". Americans are generally very poorly spoken.

Not going to even give LCAB-speak a try. The man is so brilliant he's created his own tongue.
