Yes we do . Gibbo can be the holding player . Fellaini can have a free role and Pienaar or if Honda come in could play in the hole . That's why I think we should sign Moses or a winger as we can play 4-3-3 then

That team could compete with anyone and with Barkley and Osman to replace the midfield when they need to be
 

No one is irreplaceable, and in our situation if we are offered £18m then it's money we simply cannot refuse.

Something tells me that Moyes will get his man for £14-£15m, though. He's tight like that.
 

Correct me if this stat is wrong, but apparently he created the most goal scoring opportunities for his team mates in Europe last season? That's pretty hard to replace.

Yep your correct but it still didn't make us finish higher than 6th. Therefore IMO there's obviously other and better ways to skin a cat!!

Surely without him then we would create less chances, and finish even lower on the table? 6th is a half decent achievement. Nobody coming in, based on last season's stats, will create more chances, so how will we improve?
 
In terms of a like-for-like replacement then he is irreplaceable. However if it's judged on a broader criteria as in 'would the sale of Baines long term be beneficial for Everton in terms of reinvestment and strengthening other areas?' then the answer is probably yes....though I don't like to admit it:@
 

I don't believe selling Baines and replacing him with a striker will guarantee us finishing higher than 6th. That's basically the crux of the argument, that we'd be better off without him providing it was a really high fee.

We don't NEED to sell him, we're financially stable, hell we even have a few quid to throw around thanks to the new Sky deal.

I support Everton, and watch football, to be entertained, to enjoy it, as well as to see us win. Leighton Baines does what only 2 or 3 other players in the world can do in his position. It's pretty bloody awesome to say that he does that for Everton, and he's ours. I'm proud to support Baines every weekend, it would be tragic to lose a genuine world superstar.

We don't need to sell him but we should.

For the 20-goal striker argument: It is the problem of English football still seeing things like "Backs Defend, Forwards score, Midfielders do both". I'm always inclined to see it as the opposite: Forwards start defending, Backs start attacking, Midfielders links everything together. Also, having the goal haul spread around means there is little pressure placed on one player to succeed.
 
DM will have Wayne Rooney to worry about today trying top get him to stay at UNT - no love lost there! If he has bid for Baines while still and EFC employee/outgoing manager then I have lost any respect I ever had for him - he won us nothing!
