not sure why the dour attitude amongst some.
the core group was developed and learned under Martinez. remember the Spring when (most) the injured returned and we reeled off seven straight league wins? that is likely more of what we can expect overall, and hopefully avoid some of the missteps of last season (i.e. Boxing day).
as has been said, we'll have Barry, Lukaku, and McCarthy for a possible 38 matches unstead of 33, 33, and 35 last season.
Stones, Barkley have experience under their belt. Naisy developed from object of ridicule around here to cult hero towards the end of the season.
Besic is more attitude and, if Argentina was a clue, excellent marking.
Gerry D was great, but how much did he actually play? Another winger, McGeady in shape... we'll be fine.
Garbutt and Oviedo makes LB scary enough we can boot someone forward.
Gibbo back. (insert obligatory "it's like a new signing" comment)
Kone will return and do something. I have no doubt he'll produce a couple goals.
And, oh, that Martinez chap. And his infectious positive attitude, which will empower our players.
Are we going to win the treble and smash Euro league? Not likely. But I'd bet on some deep runs and a lot more moments of joy than the whole "will 38 points be enough to keep us from being relegated?" crap I read here early last year.
If all that doesn't have you fired up and punching the walls in excitement, maybe it's time to take those Smiths records off and put on some Rollins.
