not sure why the dour attitude amongst some.

the core group was developed and learned under Martinez. remember the Spring when (most) the injured returned and we reeled off seven straight league wins? that is likely more of what we can expect overall, and hopefully avoid some of the missteps of last season (i.e. Boxing day).

as has been said, we'll have Barry, Lukaku, and McCarthy for a possible 38 matches unstead of 33, 33, and 35 last season.

Stones, Barkley have experience under their belt. Naisy developed from object of ridicule around here to cult hero towards the end of the season.

Besic is more attitude and, if Argentina was a clue, excellent marking.

Gerry D was great, but how much did he actually play? Another winger, McGeady in shape... we'll be fine.

Garbutt and Oviedo makes LB scary enough we can boot someone forward.

Gibbo back. (insert obligatory "it's like a new signing" comment)

Kone will return and do something. I have no doubt he'll produce a couple goals.

And, oh, that Martinez chap. And his infectious positive attitude, which will empower our players.

Are we going to win the treble and smash Euro league? Not likely. But I'd bet on some deep runs and a lot more moments of joy than the whole "will 38 points be enough to keep us from being relegated?" crap I read here early last year.

If all that doesn't have you fired up and punching the walls in excitement, maybe it's time to take those Smiths records off and put on some Rollins.

We'll have our occasional slip ups but we need to start strong this year, unlike last year where we drew with three bottom half teams to start the season.

Every point matters, as evidenced by our chasing of Arsenal for that fourth spot.

Barry can start against City, Lukaku against Chelsea, whole squad available for 38 games... oh yes, I'm confident.

With a degree of luck, top four is definitely possible, and who knows beyond that. But, honestly, I'd still settle for 5th again. This is a young squad that will get better with experience hopefully; main thing is keeping the spine together.

We're sorted at the back, besides a decent spare right back and keeper. We're genuinely sorted in centre mid, if you'd told me a couple of years ago Gibson would be 4th choice centre mid I'd have laughed at you. On the wings we're OK, but could do with another body, and in Osman and Naismith I reckon Bobby feels as though we've enough behind Barkley, though I'd have one more. Of course, another striker to win us games off the bench is the biggest priority.

Striker
Attacking mid who can cover the wings
Right back
Keeper

He wont bother with the bottom two, and it'll be a loaned winger and probably a loaned striker, but we're looking incredibly strong depth wise compared to recent seasons, it's brilliant that we're down to nitpicking the squad depth and shows how boss we are threatening to be.

We've got Lukaku, Barry and Besic in on permanent deals so we have two or three loan signings yet to come in. That's the huge difference between this year and last year.

I firmly believe we're going to see a starting-standard striker and a starting-standard right wing come in to push Lukaku and Mirallas, and rotate with them to keep them fresh. We'll also loan in a young promising RB to back up Coleman.

The Thursday-Sunday lark will definitely put a strain on the squad, especially up front. I hope that Martinez has a plan to manage that. (We don't play on a Saturday at 3 pm in the league at Goodison until 18th October.)

I don't care much for debating whether we're stronger or weaker, or making predictions about where we end up
All I know is that on the whole Everton is going to be amazing to support this season, with relatively very few fumes about the team, its mentality, approach to games, etc.

I'm fairly confident about this season, only thing that has me worried is if the Europa league will affect our league performances. If this squad can stay relatively injury free then a top 4 finish isn't out of the question.

But arsenal and Chelsea as 5 o'clock kick offs certainly benefits us.
