Irish Fuel Protests.

The fact that the governments first call was to the army and not to the protest organizers is a scandal, It's not difficult for the government to considerably lower the cost of fuel given almost 65% of the price is tax, and another 5 cent a litre carbon tax about to be added in May. I'm not sure i agree with blocking up the roads a better protest would be a strike by hauliers just don't do anything, it wouldn't take long for government to engage.
Blocking the roads and refineries causing both delays and increased fuel usage as well as shortages has me fuming.
Fcuk them. Some people are trying to get on with dealing with the crisis and these pricks are making it worse. They might as well park up in the Strait of Hormuz

There's videos and online posts throwing all sorts of things in there, anger at trans and WHO and that sort of thing. I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate protestors, but I suspect there are a few bad actors in there who are itching for a fight.
Of course
They were waiting in the slime for doneone to turn over a rock
Saw some comments going on about immigration and imaginary no go areas earlier having something to do with the fuel crisis

The plague of toxic Facebook facism.
Seen one solitary flatbed parked across a motorway today with Israel and USA flags. Whilst hundreds of other lorries in the traffic trying to get round him.
Gardai watching him, if it was a student in a Micra, broke down with their hazards on and a Palestine flag they'd have been straight in with the batons.
In hard on them, they're not up antagonising people in the government areas of Dublin parading where a lot of migrants live.
They don't care about anyone but themselves and never will. They'll expect their subsidies and tax write offs. Sneer and vote against any social progress the country has ever had.

👆 Lads like this out playing the yank. Taking a break from wrecking the land and rivers and somehow still dragging the reputation of decent farmers down.

Maybe they could go on strike altogether, That would have people in even more of a fume when deliveries are not getting to supermarkets as the haulires ore on strike it would make what is going on now look like a walk in the park, In 3 weeks there is another 5c a liter carbon tax being added which they have said they are going ahead with, If the government took 30c to 50c a liter off until the end of may and reevaluated then, they'd still be collecting 70c to 90c on every liter which is more than most countries and the protest would instantly stop... this is a mess of our own governments making and could be cleaned up very easily and quickly..

Maybe the government could do that, you might be right. I still resent them making my day longer today, wasting more of my fuel and causing shortages leading to massive queues at stations on top of the trafgic disruption. That's on those protesting and the manner they are choosing to protest.
The best protests try to get people onside and there was definitely an opportunity for that without making things tougher

The Government had an opportunity to stop this very early on, but the downright arrogance to refuse to even speak to the organizers of the protest is what really turned things sour.

The Farmers organisations, the haulage association, the transport industry representatives etc are in government buildings every week.

The organisers of this are who exactly Some fella who rang into liveline? The only thing I'd accuse the government of on this is how they've allowed the fash to stir up anti-imigration rhetoric to take away from the utter mess they have made of the housing crisis in Ireland. The irony of big Jim having to call in the army, on the very lads he's been happy to use the 'legitimate concerns' of, to punch down on refugees for his own political gains should not be lost on anyone.

No fuel in a lot of places here in connemara, those that have are only allowing €30 per car..
Yeah, hearing a lot of shortages happening rurally. I topped up my tank a few days ago, I don't drive a huge amount because I'm only learning so will hopefully last

I filled up in Dublin City earlier, weirdly I was the only car there, but half the pumps had out of use signs up. I’d say there is a bit of just in case rationing going on as well.

Traffic wasn’t bad coming out of the City, but believe the M50 and M7 were nightmares. Had to leave at 6.00 this morning to make the City before a Convoy heading in.

Just to say, these protests are not and have not been about fuel, or the price of it.

99.9% of farmers are farming away during the busiest time in farming.

None of the MANY farmers representative bodies are involved.

The only talking points I've heard involve Ukrainians and IPAS Centres.

I’ve just stopped reading any comments online with anyone with a username with an Irish Flag or the word “patriot” in the opening sentence.
