We don't really have a choice here mateYeah, hearing a lot of shortages happening rurally. I topped up my tank a few days ago, I don't drive a huge amount because I'm only learning so will hopefully last
Blocking the roads and refineries causing both delays and increased fuel usage as well as shortages has me fuming. The fact that the governments first call was to the army and not to the protest organizers is a scandal, It's not difficult for the government to considerably lower the cost of fuel given almost 65% of the price is tax, and another 5 cent a litre carbon tax about to be added in May. I'm not sure i agree with blocking up the roads a better protest would be a strike by hauliers just don't do anything, it wouldn't take long for government to engage.
Of courseThere's videos and online posts throwing all sorts of things in there, anger at trans and WHO and that sort of thing. I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate protestors, but I suspect there are a few bad actors in there who are itching for a fight.

Maybe they could go on strike altogether, That would have people in even more of a fume when deliveries are not getting to supermarkets as the haulires ore on strike it would make what is going on now look like a walk in the park, In 3 weeks there is another 5c a liter carbon tax being added which they have said they are going ahead with, If the government took 30c to 50c a liter off until the end of may and reevaluated then, they'd still be collecting 70c to 90c on every liter which is more than most countries and the protest would instantly stop... this is a mess of our own governments making and could be cleaned up very easily and quickly..Blocking the roads and refineries causing both delays and increased fuel usage as well as shortages has me fuming.
Fcuk them. Some people are trying to get on with dealing with the crisis and these pricks are making it worse. They might as well park up in the Strait of Hormuz
Maybe the government could do that, you might be right. I still resent them making my day longer today, wasting more of my fuel and causing shortages leading to massive queues at stations on top of the trafgic disruption. That's on those protesting and the manner they are choosing to protest.Maybe they could go on strike altogether, That would have people in even more of a fume when deliveries are not getting to supermarkets as the haulires ore on strike it would make what is going on now look like a walk in the park, In 3 weeks there is another 5c a liter carbon tax being added which they have said they are going ahead with, If the government took 30c to 50c a liter off until the end of may and reevaluated then, they'd still be collecting 70c to 90c on every liter which is more than most countries and the protest would instantly stop... this is a mess of our own governments making and could be cleaned up very easily and quickly..
The Government had an opportunity to stop this very early on, but the downright arrogance to refuse to even speak to the organizers of the protest is what really turned things sour.Maybe the government could do that, you might be right. The best protests try to get people onside and there was definitely an opportunity for that without making things tougher
The Farmers organisations, the haulage association, the transport industry representatives etc are in government buildings every week. The Government had an opportunity to stop this very early on, but the downright arrogance to refuse to even speak to the organizers of the protest is what really turned things sour.
No fuel in a lot of places here in connemara, those that have are only allowing €30 per car..

Just to say, these protests are not and have not been about fuel, or the price of it.
99.9% of farmers are farming away during the busiest time in farming.
None of the MANY farmers representative bodies are involved.
The only talking points I've heard involve Ukrainians and IPAS Centres.
