Think you have slightly over reacted there, albeit it is an emotive question, no Everton supporter wants the team to lose, it is just if they do least you will have a little yang to go with the yin.
I have never done it but sometimes I wish I did! In fact I really should start because with my luck Everton would start romping games, I would be poorer but emotionally better off.
Maybe I have, maybe I haven’t. Let me try and explain it in a different way as to where Im coming from. Like the vast majority of people on this forum, we are Evertonians and first and foremost we want us to win. But, to be fair the team on the pitch have not been good enough to compete for too long and for a variety of reasons. Some performances haven’t been deserving of the huge support they get week in, week out.
As with many on here, I’m also a season ticket holder and I go to most of our away games too. In fact, I go to so many, I get to go to Anfield and the other so called big teams each year and have done so for many years. I’m invested in Everton both through the money side and the time taken travelling all over the country, not to mention the managing of work in between. It’s my choice to do it, because I enjoy it. I’ve seen some brilliant games, experienced the wins and horrible losses, but nothing beats the memories of seeing us win and the emotion of the ball hitting the net. I’ve met some brilliant people too. I want us to be better than the year before and to win something, so it goes against everything I believe in to bet against Everton.
So, if you’re asking me, would I say put £50 on Liverpool to beat us at 2/5 at Anfield because winning £20 somehow softens the blow? It doesn’t, wouldn’t and couldn’t. Or, hypothetically putting the £50 on Liverpool to win -3 because it’s 9/2 and I could win a few hundred, I can assure you it wouldn’t help. I would probably blame myself and that stupid bet for the loss, so put simply, no, I never bet against Everton.
I try and find a more positive way of having a bet on the football when it comes to Everton and my £10 on Zouma first goal scorer away at West Ham was one of my better ones, well my mates thought so as they enjoyed helping me celebrate one of our better days in London.
Well that’s how I see it and to be honest it doesn’t bother one way or the other how anyone else does. If backing against Everton makes you happy, because they let you down on so many occasions, fair enough, it’s just not for me.
