Incredibly biased 'Best Derby Ever' poll on the Echo site

I haven't read that paper since its 'Merseyside says Sorry' to Juventus Fans.

The paper is a disgrace, The Echo, the club and their fans outdid themselves with there treatment to Bulgaria during the whole Michael Shields affair. As much as I felt sorry for Michael Shields it was never about who did do it, just about who didn't. Only that shower could go and nearly kill someone and come back as victims.

Poll results:

The results are in - and ECHO readers have voted last weekend's thrilling 3-3 draw between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park the greatest Merseyside derby ever.

Saturday's game topped our website poll with 31.1% of the vote, ahead of the 4-4 draw in 1991 on 23.9% and the 'Gary Mac' derby of 2001 on 12.6%.

380 football fans had their say in our survey.

Here was your derby top five:

2013 - Everton 3 Liverpool 3 31.1%

1991 - Everton 4 Liverpool 4 23.9%

2001 - Everton 2 Liverpool 3 12.6%

1970 - Liverpool 3 Everton 2 8.2%

1961 - Everton 4 Liverpool 3 7.9%

Quite surprised that Saturday's derby won the poll. Would have said the 4-4 myself.

Till we knock them off their "local perch" it will remain the same, need to tw@t them a few times and win something - newspapers are the biggest bandwagon jumpers bar none.

We've finished above them the last 2 seasons. Other than winning something I'm not quite sure what else would constitute us 'knocking them off their perch'.

Maybe getting richer owners than they have, but then - you know how that goes.

The 4-4 Derby pushed King Kenny toward the door of Ashworth - thus securing my vote.

Dead right. I still get goosebumps when I think of Barry Davies saying "I don't think Cottee's had a touch yet. He might get one NOWWWWWW!! Unbelievable!"

Bye then, Kenny. Well done, leaving your club high and dry like that. Don't mind if we win the replay, do you? Ta.

Sorry mate that's misguided, continually not beating them and getting leathered in games like the Wembley semi nails the league position for what it is - a small mercy.

Throw in their turmoil of recent years and it's just the "best of rest" yawnfest coinciding with them in transition, a few more games like saturday but us knocking those chances in will do it.

Plus we must win something.

I know what you're saying, that we always bottle it against them in the 'big games'. Unfortunately those big games only seem to come around once in a blue moon.

I'm with you totally in what you're saying though, I just think us finishing above them 2 years in a row gets conveniently forgotten when they come out with their 'we've got better players than you' ****e that is quite frankly untrue. Because if they did have better players they'd be finishing above us over 38 games. 'Let's see where you are in May' is what they always used to say - apparently they forget all this when they're below us at the end of the season in May.

'What was the best derby ever?'

13 choices to vote for in a poll - comprised of 1 Everton win (from 1961), 6 Liverpool wins, and 6 draws.

I know a ridiculous bias against Everton from the Echo is not exactly a newsflash, but this poll struck me as particularly galling. I mean, 13 choices and only 1 of them is an Everton win? Really? They couldn't find a few more? We've won plenty of derbies over the years. Why wasn't the 3-0 win from 2006 (our biggest home derby win for 80+ years) in there as a choice? The whole thing is massively skewed towards Liverpool.

What's really odd is the whole thing appears under Dave Prentice's name, and he's supposed to be a blue.

If you complain about the echo on twitter dave prentice and greg okeefe just block you.

Heads in sand.

September 21, 1985 - Everton 2 Liverpool 3

Watching England boss Bobby Robson described it as “one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen” and no-one argued with him.

Leaving aside the obvious bias of that poll and the fact that we lost, this game was probably even better than Saturday's thriller.

EFC and LFC were probably the two best teams in Europe at the time and the second half in particular generated one of the best ever Goodison atmospheres. I seem to reccal either Sharpy or Lineker hitting the woodwork down the Street End.

A great game.

Was that the one when Barnes had cut his own hair and given up whilst doing it ?
