'What was the best derby ever?'

13 choices to vote for in a poll - comprised of 1 Everton win (from 1961), 6 Liverpool wins, and 6 draws.

I know a ridiculous bias against Everton from the Echo is not exactly a newsflash, but this poll struck me as particularly galling. I mean, 13 choices and only 1 of them is an Everton win? Really? They couldn't find a few more? We've won plenty of derbies over the years. Why wasn't the 3-0 win from 2006 (our biggest home derby win for 80+ years) in there as a choice? The whole thing is massively skewed towards Liverpool.

What's really odd is the whole thing appears under Dave Prentice's name, and he's supposed to be a blue.

TBH I'm amazed they put 1 in.........

This comment - which I thought seemed quite rational for an RS fan - was at the bottom of that article and has been heavily 'down-thumbed'. Lol at the deluded bells NAH WEEV GOT DA BEST TEEM IN DER LEEG.

A very exciting game no doubt , because of the fluctuating goals , but as a reds fan I was not overly impressed by the way we played , we still have 2/3 average players ie Lucas . Allen & Henderson . If we have any chance of a top 4 spot we need a D/M an A/M & a pacey , powerful striker. Sturridge when he came on he was very good , he looks good as an impact player ,that is why I would like us to get another quality striker , but not another Borini or Aspas a very quick & very powerful lad . Then we could alternate between the 3, A C/L spot is there for the taking but our present squad is not good enough .

Liverpool 0 Everton 4 1964

Not surprised in the slightest.

Remember we had that Everton Correspondent for years, Liverpool's one left, the Everton one then become Liverpool's and in his first article revealed he was a staunch Liverpool fan and "you never say no to your Club". That's the Kopite Echo summed up right there.

I think the Derby is summed up by feelings not the result. Thinking back my top derbies were Carsley 1-0 at Goodison, Duncan 2-0 1994 and the 3 nil from about 6 years ago. I pick them three out because of the emotion when carsley hammered home that shot, starting university and watching us dominate the ****e in what became my local and the first season i started going the game and some big scottish fella won it for us.

Saying that i rather enjoyed the game on saturday simply because it gave me everything i wanted from the game. Passion, goals, and mirallas :)

The 0-4 at Anfield in 64 is a great shout. We were such underdogs. Between injuries and some players who had been accused by former goalkeeper Albert Dunlop of taking 'purple hearts' left out of the team we started with 8 regulars missing. We scored in the first minute and absolutely battered them. Shut the kopites up. one of whom had run onto the pitch before the game and planted a purple heart in the centre circle.

My own favourite derby though was the evening cup game when Alan Ball scored the winner in a 1-0 victory, the match was, I believe, the first to have been shown on big screens at the away teams ground. 68,000 at Goodison and 40,OOO AT Anfield

Happy days

September 21, 1985 - Everton 2 Liverpool 3

Watching England boss Bobby Robson described it as “one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen” and no-one argued with him.

Leaving aside the obvious bias of that poll and the fact that we lost, this game was probably even better than Saturday's thriller.

EFC and LFC were probably the two best teams in Europe at the time and the second half in particular generated one of the best ever Goodison atmospheres. I seem to reccal either Sharpy or Lineker hitting the woodwork down the Street End.

A great game.

Its the Echo's job to jump in when things go wrong for Liverpool and try and soothe them with a comforting article/poll or two.

"Here's your choice of *the best derbies of all time*: ten that Liverpool won and one that Everton won...over to you *Merseyside* football fans"

Hysterical in its predictability...I'm just surprised they haven't got a campaign going yet to strip Phil Dowd of his citizenship.
