How about this for an XI in their prime.

Pat Jennings

Mike Pejic
Colin Todd
Richard Gough
Kenny Sansom

Andre Kanchelskis
Paul Gascoigne
Bruce Rioch
David Ginola

Samuel Eto'o
Mark Hughes

Subs: Nigel Martyn, Gary Ablett, Terry Phelan, Anders Limpar, Andy Gray, Asa Hartford, Peter Beardsley

I haven't counted players who reached their prime after leaving us, like Rooney or Matterazzi.....nor the likes of Lineker who despite doing great things after leaving us was very much in his prime when at Goodison.

One of my fav players of all time was Stuart mcall.... Not a popular choice I agree but he was absolute quality in my eyes and we sold him too soon.

Some team that to be fair.

Saha without the injury problems would have been great to see too.

Apart from Gazza, my left-field one would be Rooney. Imagine last season with a 27yr old Rooney in the team - 4th spot nailed on.

Rooney was in his prime in his early twenties, when he had the ability to run past defenders and terrorise teams. He can't do that anymore and hasn't been able to for a couple of years.

As for a player in his prime? It's gota be Gazza....Come on...When he was in his pomp England has not had a better midfielder. Early 90's he was arguably one of the best in the world never mind england!

I'm not of the opinion Andrei Kanchelskis was past his best with us. He was at his best as was Lineker, but neither stayed as long as we'd have liked for different reasons. I loved Andrei by the way.

I also loved Neville Southall, so I shall say Nigel Martyn, as at his prime when we so nearly signed him in 1995, he'd have been miles better than Paul Gerrard and a worthy successor to the big man.

Says much about him that when he did roll up at Goodison, he was still the best we'd had since Nev.
