Maddison. We get it, you're an Apple fun boy despite trying to post "balanced" comparisons you've got the affliction as most other apple owners. Bad, bad teddishness

I agree with the 'fun boy' bit (y)

Lol you're just not happy that I pointed out that Dells own iMac type offering costs more than Apples ;)

Only a fan boy would say Apples are better than PCs, its as if they think they have stumbled upon the greatest thing in the world, when really its just a flashy overpriced pile of crap.

If you're a student mate, student discount is 14% if you log onto a computer and order through your university network. Also the added support options is dirt cheap, something like £40 for 3 years cover and telephone support. That's real telephone support too, trust me what PC folk never mention is if you have a problem with a PC you call Microsoft, who then refer you to the vendor, who then refer you to Microsoft..... get the picture. Apple consistently come out number 1 in Computer support

Just make sure you order through a computer that's logged onto a Higher Education network to get the full discount. Also double check to see if it's cheaper to upgrade the RAM via a third party such as Crucial. It's not difficult to fit RAM.

Apple's argument, although I think it's a lame one personally, is that Blueray drives are easy to get hold of as a third party add on, ie plug it into one of the firewire ports etc. They're real reason for not adding it is two fold, they think that most content will be delivered online in teh future and secondly something to do with licensing costs. Either way it's a lame reason not to fit a Blueray drive

Yes, I have 4 and I run out! lol. If you're going to do any heavy PHotoshop work the more ram the better.

Mine gets gobbled up with multi tasking though. OSX isn't like windows in the way it allocates RAM, the more RAM you have with OSX the more it will use instead of using the swap file.

Once you get used to Expose and Spaces, you'll easily have 10-15 apps running at the same time on a regular basis. Couple that with the fact you'll probably only ever reboot your system once ever two months or so when there's an OS update, and you'll be quite glad you've got the extra RAM

Cheersmate thats a big help, top posts!

Just to prove a point when it comes to the mac vs pc debate, it's very common for pc people to not compare like for like. I don't think it's deliberate, I think it's more a different mindset. Yes when you look at bare specs there are occasions when you can look at a mac and think, bugger me that's expensive.

But if you want a true comparison

Dell's all in one solution:

Dell Dell XPS One 24 Desktop

Entry level xps one 24 - £1,279
Top end system - £1,789

Apple:

Entry - £949
Top end system - £1,599

Funny how in a like for like comparison the mac is umm..... bugger me it's cheaper!!!! who'd have thought?? Clearly with the PC you're paying extra for the plastic, ugly looks, and umm Microcrap?? What a rip off! :P

Spec wise it's also behind, who'd have thought

In all seriousness though, it's always good to get both sides of an argument. Cost is always a relative variable. If a cheap price is an absolute must due to monetary constraints, sure I'd buy a cheap PC. Mind you I'd probably run Ubuntu on it instead of Windows, but in the interest of fairness I really do like the look of Windows 7. The only problem is that wont run very well on a cheap box

Actually it runs awesome even on slow computers. I installed it on my netbook (with an Intel Atom 1.6Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM and integrated graphics AND a crappy slow 1st gen SSD that is the next upgrade) and it is much snappier than the 4 month old install of Windows XP. Not gonna encode a video or play COD on it, but for bashing away on a word processor, surfing the net, watching movies or listening to music....you would never tell it is such a slow machine.
