Im considering playing golf

Don’t expect new technology to matter until you get to a certain point where you find some consistency in your swing. Better equipment does not make you a better golfer if your swing is still a mess. I always see awful golfers with 2 grand worth of clubs in their bag and just don’t understand it. I’m about a 10 handicap and have had the same irons for 9 years now. If I ever get to about a 5, maybe they’ll be replaced.

Oh, and if you see Brands out on the course, can you remind him we still need a right back? Thanks.

We had a start playing golf thread earlier in the year.

Be original people! Where are our aspiring Fencers? Pole Vaulters? Even Dressage riders after being inspired by Jerry and Mrs B?

Anyway, don't buy clubs online without trying them. And certainly don't buy them online after trying them at your local club/range/shop before mumbling an excuse and buying off Bezos anyway. Snide.

Get down to a local club, talk to the resident Pro. Get some lessons, see if you enjoy it. Don't get the rage when you feel like little progress is being made.

Have fun, or at least try to. Go easy on the gaudy attire. You're not in Florida.

Many years ago I really fancied geting into Golf, I'm not the sportiest and thought it would be OK with my levels of fitness and just be a good social sport. Bought clubs, booked a series of 10 lessons with a local Golf pro at a local course.

On my 9th lesson the Golf Pro turned to me, and rather than try and sell me anymore lessons, simply asked "Have you considered any other sports". That was pretty much the end of my Golfing career.

it's a very hard game - best going out on the course with a mate who can play TBH..... He can give you tips on how to play - visiting a driving range with a knowleable mate also a good idea .......

Horrible sport.

Every time I get my clubs out and notice the 4 iron isn’t there it reminds me that I slung it up a tree in rage. Not a great memory to have of yourself.

It really is a love/hate sport.

You can play two wonderful shots and be on the green for a birdie putt and walk away with a triple bogey.

As someone once said, golf just ruins a good walk.

I personally love it and although can be very frustrating at times, it's a great sport really. Just you against the course

You do get the opportunity to dress like an utter wrong ‘un and be accepted into the community though. Gofists do have some awful fashion sense

Find out when " ladies day " is and avoid it like the plague.

It`d be quicker playing with a herd of strangely dressed tortoise`s playing in front of you.

That reminds me of the joke about Ladies golf ......

It's the annual prize giving day at a posh golf course after their slap up meal the captain & committee hand all the cups out for all the different trophies on various handicaps etc

Then the lady Captain takes to the stage with the committee to hand out the ladies section trophies out where she herself wins most of the trophies .....

Then she makes a startling announcement- all these years of being lady captain ...I have been secretly a transvestite..

After a big gasp in the room - The top chairman shouts that's it hand all your trophies back right now .....

The meeting crowd shout hey that's sexism ...

Nothing to do with that the chairman claimed - those trophies were won under false pretences as they have been won playering of the ladies tees 20 yards nearer the golf pin hole ...
