I agree with the buy 2nd hand first until you know you committed.. then get the best you can afford… don’t skimp.. it’s an investment and if you buy right you will have clubs you won’t grow out of for years and years…

Go for a walk instead. Its basically the same thing.
That's what the GPO told my late Father in law when his knees went ... lol

He was a golf fanatic - he really was mother-in-law was a golfing widow ....- she moaned at him to convert their kitchen he knocked a wall down - acro propped it with a beam then sneaked off to Bowering park golf club to play in a big match lol

I arrived at my then Girlfriends, future wifes hose to see him creep in the back way & she was waiting for him with a rolling pin lol

My tips would be if you can afford lessons do it because it's an extremely technical sport that you'll have no idea how to do on your own and don't get frustrated by bad shots because they're going to happen a lot and it isn't fun at all if your mad the whole way.

Another bit of advice after taking lessons and practicing a ton on what you learned, is to set scoring goals. The first couple of rounds counting every swing should set standard you want to improve on. I am fine with a new player taking mulligans but not counting them. Set whatever terrible standard you are actually playing at versus your retry score.

Set whatever that baseline might be. For me breaking 100 was my first goal. I did it pretty fast. Ok now that I did that I set 90 as my next goal. I came within two strokes several times and began regressing to the point that breaking 100 was becoming a challenge. I made the massive mistake of not getting lessons to start.

I hit rock bottom shooting shooting a 13 and a 14 on consecutive holes. The 14 was on a par 4. I was only 8 over on the par 5.

So like four years into this experiment I was lost

I signed up for a 6 lesson package the next week Within 15 minutes he had me hitting the ball on target and farther than I ever had.

It was at point after hours of practice that I found some used clubs that I was fitted for.

Shooting below 90 was no problem. Mid 80's were the norm

I set my goal at 80. The mental midget in me can't help but watch the score and be aware the he is close. Something always bad happens when you are thinking about your score.

The mental midget in me took a day off when out of nowhere I shot a 74 on a par 72 course
