Could have been many, many great players I have seen represent us, from the early sixties onwards, but Dixie aside, I would love to speak to Tommy Lawton, who had most of his career taken from him by WW2, yet still scored shedloads for us. An old boy my dad knew always said Dean was the greatest, but Tommy Lawton was far and away the better footballer. He reckoned Tommy’s game would have been much better suited to the modern game as he was extremely technically gifted. Ended up living on handouts and sending begging letters to Dickie Attenborough.
