Sim mate he never came through the ranks making fans like me drool thinking of the day he matured enough to play in the first team, he never showed a t shirt once a blue which the gobshites still taunt us with ,he never told lies in a book about the manager and the clincher he never kissed utds badge the end hope he never comes back I have never hated any ex player as much(n)

But he fact he came through the ranks doesnt give him anymore reason to stay than anyone else, all players come through the ranks somewhere and leave for bigger thing, more money etc

And only because we dreamed that he would be the man to lift Everton from the gloom only to leave that just means its our hangup not his.

As I've already said before I was as pissed off as anyone else here when he left, but I feel that most of the hatred is because he's not the player we'd dare dream he could become, and we dont like it.

This thread makes me laugh. If he came back (a decision of which none of us would be able to influence either way), everyone would be stoked. A few titty lips and typical nobheads spitting their dummies but for what he could do for the club I think most sensible people would see past the panto antics.

I was stood amongst the absolute horrible [Poor language removed] name calling and insults that young lad had to endure whilst waiting for the whistle to kick off and to be honest I was shocked he never turned round and did a Cantona on some proper [Poor language removed] in the crowd.
Maybe I'm getting old but I do think some people go too far with their insults at footy.
If it was in a crowded pub and they did it to the lad he'd be flying over with his fists out, so he did the only thing he could and he knew it would get the reaction it did. I'm almost willing to say good on him, but at the end of the day what he did was [Poor language removed] all, he did it for a reaction and he got it and he smiled about it. The nobs in the crowd went ballistic it was pure panto genius, shame its not on tape.

So far as Rooney moving to ManU, I believe it was best all round. The money we got gave us a shot in the arm and we have a lot of decent players now down to the fact that we got the money for Rooney. He got to go play in the CL and test himself.

If he came back a bit wiser in 5-8 years and in his press conference said something along the lines of "I went so Everton could have the cash from my move and build a better team" I wouldn't be shocked or annoyed at what he did.

Let me go get my flame proof suit.

Completely agree. He was only a kid when he left and him, and his family, all got a torrent of abuse (and still do) so he's gonna do the odd silly stuff to our fans. Yeah, the "once and blue..." vest then [Poor language removed] off to them is terrible, and painful, because of how much of a talent he is, but we sold him for £31 million! £31 million! For that price I'd sell me own mother! Everton said he could go.

He was young and wanting to play on the big world stage. I didnt like it, but who wouldnt go and get paid 100 grand a week? He was brought up on a council estate for christ sakes.

If he wasnted to come back, it'd be like cutting your nose off to spite your face to say no. Just cos he plays for the mancs dont mean he and his family dont support the club still.

Well said Kenada.

To my knowledge it was 2 payments of £10 million plus up another 7-8 million in bonuses for what he does at utd, am I wrong or right on that one?

I couldnt remember so I got that figure from wikipedia

Ah reliable old wikipedia:D

I'm not 100% certain so I dont know really, but I thought we would be lucky to see much more than £25M for him give the amount of clauses there were.

That was what I understood it to be.

Somewhere realistically in the neighboorhood of 25M assuming he hit many of the incentive targets.

I wonder how many of the targets are still out there where we could still see some residual.

For example. Did they have an incentive payment based on a certain amount of England caps? How about Champions League appearances? There were quite a few different ones if I remember correctly but someone else (Bruce Wayne, I'm looking at you) might know the details of his transfer.

I know that one of them was utd winning the champions league and another was Rooney extending his contract with them and appearances for england, so we're due to payouts if they get them.

They'll (Utd) avoid such payments being honoured by simply offering Darren Fletcher to us for a cut price £4M

My main problem with Rooney is how he left - at the first opportunity.

He handed in a transfer request with very little time before the transfer closure which heavily favoured the buyer.

He could have given us at least until January.

I blame Stretford for a large part of it.

Not all of it mind you but a very, very, very big part of the saga.

Nah I dont. Not at all tbh Bill.

Rooney comes across as far to arrogant to be someone thats dictated to.

I think he does now, but back then he was a quiet, sheepish lad who mumbled and looked [Poor language removed] scared when doing interviews.

You get more confident with a few million in the bank :D
