2017/18 Idrissa Gueye

I think Gueye & Schneiderlin will probably keep us in the Prem, but neither is good enough for top 4, in fact, other than Rooney
& Barkley, we have nobody good enough. Evertons fans deserve more.

Thought Gueye was our only bright spark against Arsenal. Looked like he might be getting back to his best.

Started off well, but then suffered from the horrific tactics and formations that Koeman implemented and lost form along with the team. Some of our supporters expect certain players to do things that isn't part of their game and don't understand the concept of players not playing well due to a team being in a poor run of form.

If Unsworth can get the team playing to a level we expect, Gana will improve as he's one of our best players and in my opinion, one of the best in his position in the whole league.

Think Gana and Schneiderlin can still play well together they just need players ahead of them and on the wing to provide the attacking threat that they are in the team for. That said, it doesn't excuse the 2 of them playing poorly in some games and their insistence in playing the ball backwards and sideways more often than they needed to.

in regards to gueye, is he not? other than Kante who was better last season in his position?
He can't move the ball forwards effectively enough to be compared to kante.

Midway though last season teams found him out & started to just let him have the ball.

Against Brighton the sky cameras picked up chris Hughton screaming let him have it. I suppose it's all about balance & whilst he plays with Schneiderlin his frailties are clearly exposed.

I'm not sold on his positional discipline either but you could argue it's his job to recover possession & its not his role to cover the hole it leaves behind.

he might not be the best on the ball but that's not really his job, his job is to break play up and win tacjkles etc, probably why him and morgan don't work together because gueye is better suited having a forward passer next to him ( ie davies )

Last season he had attacking players like Barkley and Lukaku to play it forward to. This season he's had very little ahead of him and was then expected to become a Ross Barkley type player where he runs with the ball and creates things when it's not his role. Don't get me wrong, him and the rest of the team have to take some accountability for their poor performances this season. That Brighton game you mention was a good example where Sigurdsson was an option about 15 yards ahead of him and he tried to play it sideways to Schneiderlin and lost it. He made his own problems doing things like that.

But when he's playing well he's a top class player in his position. He can drive forward with the ball to an extent and there are youtube videos proving this from last season. But there comes a time when he will need to give it to a player with more attacking intent (and quality) and that is what he has rarely had ahead of him this season.

Not good enough. Simple as that.
