I think if could be fluid mate - the squad if you look at it has a fair bit of tactical variance if the potential moves happen, the double pivot is an option, if we needed it, 3-5-2 or a 4-2-1-3.
I think it has tactical variance on paper but I believe that we are still very short on quality, that will ultimately be our undoing.

Whilst we may have a lot of forward options that like to press (DCL, Gordon, McNeil, Allan and possibly Gana), i think Dele has to play because of how few goal threats we have and we're always told that you either press as a team or don't bother because you can't afford to carry any passengers.

I'm also uncomfortable with leaving our defence exposed if our midfielders are constantly leaving their positions. I think Mykolenko is a good 1v1 defender but we've never seen Tarkowski play in a system before where he's easy to get at, similarly with Patterson if he plays. We know the centre backs we had last season need all the protection they can get.

I dont disagree on quality mate, i think we've made a big Judgement on McNeill, i hope it pays off.

I think the whole things set up around a press, you explain it very well, though i think you are being harsh on Dele, sure defensive play isnt his suit, but hes pressed and did his bit when played, hes a bit of a snide as well which i like. He does pretty much what Gylfi ever did on the breakdown.

Fair points mate, a lot of it is a big leap of faith and trust in the manager - it does seem at least we are working toward a play and a style, which to be honest is a bit reassuring. You explained it very well.

As you say, you could bring in a ball playing Gilmor or Winks in beside Idrissa, he was pretty good at being a water carrier - I mean he and Gomes were a midfield two the season before he left, with Gylfi in the hole.

If Idrissa comes in i suspect we may need to shift Gomes and Gbamin before we bring in any one else - we will be overstocked.

Here's the thing for me, Gomes looked actually very very good alongside Gueye and awful without him - think about it, he made Gomes look good enough that few here complained when we dropped 25,m to buy him from Barca.

If anything looking over stats and the eye test, rather than decline at 32, he's actually a far better and more rounded player now than the one we sold.

Tarkowski - a complete pro, hardworking player, McNeil the same add Gueye to those who we know for certain always give everything and thsts a great 3 examples to try turn these flakes around

Its crossed my mind could he reignite or enable Gomes into an option....but maybe to much water has passed mate.

I've only seen the odd PSG game to be honest mate, so ill take your respected word on that.

I think we are moving along according to a plan and philosophy if im analysing right, when i look at how it all fits together its made up of players who can press, provide work rate and offer variance - if everyone linked comes - i have questions on the quality of some of our signings, but am open minded, i am however reassured that it seems to be working toward a plan and philosophy in building and developing an identity. We absolutely need to stick with this though and back it - no matter the adversity, we cant rip it up and reboot it again.

No. This is collective amnesia. Gomes was good for about 5 games, he was absolutely rubbish next to Gueye for the majority of that season.

Why Gomes? It will be difficult for any team to break down Doucoure and Gana. Combine double digit tackles and interception per game. That is huge.

I completely agree mate about how we are looking at setting up via the recruitment, even look at the more serious linked names, MGW, Gallacher, Broja, - noticable that all three rate very highly on the pressing and winning the ball back in the final third metrics.

Given all three are young and far from complete players yet it'd suggest we are using the ability to do a high press at a top level as a requirement almost in recruitment.

We were just saying playing with Idrissa his first season convinced us to sign him and was probably his best season with us, we were just speculating could the trick be repeated, could Idissa enable Gomes again and he becomes a live option, probably not - just shooting breeze.

Kalimuendo is a good player for Ligue 1 but i dont think that's a good move to put around 20m to bring him here. Plus he did great in the preseason and Christophe Galtier was impressed so i think we wont let him go for less than 25.

Unfortunately, the Everton's team dont seems to look to Ligue 1 a lot, there's a lot of young talent able to improve our squad, Amine Gouiri from Nice, Ludovic Blas from Nantes, Seko Fofana from Lens (Best midfielder of the Ligue last year), Mavididi from Montpellier (english striker) ...
All of those players could be buy for 10-20m and are quality for sure

Amine Gouri for £10-20mil ? Dont think so.

As for Gana, ive never seen a premier league player at 33 (26 sept) run like Gana used to for us.

Cant see it possible he can keep that same energy.

Poor move unless a 1 year deal.
