Firstly, when top-flight careers tend to last 15-18 years max, 3 years is a pretty significant difference.
Secondly, one was the lynchpin of a midfield that won 5 CLs and numerous domestic trophies. The other was in and out of the team, for a club that thrashed a load of farmers on the weekly and perennially struggled to do anything significant in the CL.
To not spend €10m on a 33yo semi-retired midfielder. Was I not clear?
€10m nowadays buys you an untested French Ligue 2 reserve keeper, it’s barely a fee. The thing that annoys me is if this has been the sticking point why didn’t we do it three weeks ago?
