Idrissa Gueye

Club's best player leaves, some fans claim it will be fine because he didn't catapult the club to the top four by himself. Shock horror, club now 17th and easier to beat than an egg. Said player now dominating for one of the world's best teams.

But it's still OK, because said player was just a headless chicken who ran around a lot without actually doing anything good.

Really shows how little some "experts" on here really know
Wasn't he in the team when Everton were getting walloped every week under both Koeman and Silva in the last two seasons?

I'd say our two worst performances last season came without Gueye and that our struggles this year are in part not having him and trying to play the same tactics.

There's a huge whole there was he was

It's not like we sold him for change to Brighton..

He was in demand for a reason. Cos he was bloody effective at what he does.

PSG are now reaping the benefits of having him, whereas we are, again, at a loss, having not replaced him

As much as I think he's overrated, I definitely agree that it's stupid to play the same way with midfielders that can't cover as much ground.

Leaving his role for us aside, I'm not sure if you've seen him while he's been at PSG?

Eight games played. No goals conceded. Eight wins.

They've lost two of the three matches he hasn't played in IIRC.

He's immediately added balance to that PSG side. He doesn't just sit - it's actually Paredes/Marquinhos who is doing that, he's basically playing in a box-to-box role and thriving.

Honestly, he's proving just how good he is.

Last game, against Angers (second at the time they played) I covered PSG. He was ace.

The stats support it too. In no way overrated now. He's genuinely up there with the best in Europe in that position right now.

£30m, PSG must have been peeing in their pants when they seen that figure.

"All he does is run around and tackle, he's crap at football lad".

I'm sure us getting pummeled by championship sides and not being able to score are in no way tied to the same player leaving to join a league winning and champions league playing side

123 passes with a 95% accuracy the other day. Three key passes/passes that led to a chance (most of any player on the pitch). Also 79 passes in the oppo half, about 35 more than any of our players have managed all season.

Obviously, he's in a far better side playing against generally weaker oppo. But they haven't conceded a goal in any of the eight games he's played and he was incredible against Real Madrid.

We shouldn't be missing him in games like Burnley away and Sheff Utd at home but we are because Silva is too thick to realise he needs to change system.
