He's never been a pirlo on the ball. His strengths are winning the ball, protecting the back 4 and playing simple passes to others.

The problem was that he couldn't even control the ball properly tonight for their goal and poor passing. Bad day at the office.

The 20 minute cameo from garner showed we have a different/better midfield option on the bench.

Garner is more of an 8 so he'd be more in competition with Onana.

Gana needs to stay in given how Spurs play but he really needs to be given instructions to keep things simple and stay concentrated.

Looks very much like a player in World Cup self-preservation mode to me.

Lampard is going to have to sniff this out over the coming weeks. If Gueye is in mental cotton wool, he needs to be dropped.

He does?

Well?

It's a big ask to think Tom Davies or even Garner can nullify Kane next weekend when he drops into that space 30 yards from goal. At least Gana has that knowledge from years of playing in CL in how to position himself.

Won't be so quick to move the ball forward either as Lampard will have learnt plenty from 5-0 horror show so it will be more sit in and keep it tight for as long as possible.

Get him out and get Garner in. It's just a pity we're facing Spurs and Newcastle away next two games. Thgat's a baptism of fire he could do without.

Gana Gueye lacked urgency and precision at times against Man Utd, or putting it another way... he showed a lack of discipline. That's not really like him, so I'm not that concerned.
