Arsenal 1-1 Everton: Roberto Martínez Has Stripped Blues Of Their Inferiority Complex

"I always said to talk about league games in December is foolish," Martínez said. "We look at the final third of the season and see where we can go. With the history and tradition of the club, with nine titles, we should be looking to get into the Champions League. It has to be an ultimate aim."

Don't mean to put a downer on things but I clearly remember a fresh faced Moyes saying simlar things early in his tenure. Years of no board support and millions upon millions being invested in other clubs wore him down and ultimately defeated him....

Hope it's not the same with bobby....and something makes me think it won't be.

Of course you mean to put a downer on it. You could have kept schtum.

I'd say tactical limitations "ultimately defeated" Moyes as much as anything else.

On several occasions the CL and all its riches were there for the taking.

Moyes was unable to rise to the challenge and sieze the day.

Sorry.

Sorry.

I.e Not playing to a strikers strengths. If we actually had a striker last season we would of got top four.

Sorry mate I really can't remember Moyes EVER saying anything inspirational other than "peoples club" and it is rumoured he was fed that line.

Yes.

We were in a very strong position at the start of January with a run of very favourable fixtures in front of us.

The CL place was there for the taking.

Nope

Moyes negative tactics and is inability to change the game with clever subs or altering the formation was his and our down fall

Bobby money or not will always have more about him

I remember him saying "lets just try and get to 40pts and see where we can go from there"

I was so inspired.

In all fairness I remember "I aim to win the league until it is impossible to us" sort of comments early on. That very quickly disappeared, around the time we got 4th and then got kicked out of europe....

Moyes was never the sort of manager to get players all fired up, too dour for me and far from being an inspirational leader. IMO.

He must have said that for about 7 years, oh how we loved winning the 40point trophy before picking up the 7th place cup.....but tbf he left us on top of the RS for a couple of seasons.......

You are correct. He wanted us to be League Champions by 2012 and had a clear plan as to how this would be achieved.
But then Chelsea and City moved the goal posts massively.

I remember ITV did a documentary towards the end of the 02/03 season about the transformation of Everton.
TBF we had been so turgid since 97 that it was understandable.

But he just didn't have that extra bit that makes you a winner all told. Ferguson did (see Aberdeen).
Martinez has it though. Lets hope we keep this momentum going.

I think the difference is that Moyes talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk.

Roberto sems capable of both walking and talking.
