Howard and Set Pieces

Does anyone else believe that Howard has been struggling this season with set pieces, especially when the opposition places a player in front of him? He gets too worked up, complains, and loses concentration too easily...

I know the goal leaks this season is not just his doing, but a combination of him and our back four. However, I do believe he was a lot more commanding and composed previous seasons compared to this.

Some people say it is through exhaustion, but there are plenty of teams who just use 1 goalkeeper throughout the whole season, so it should be expected of him to last a season of playing every game.

I'm not having a dig, just an observation.

He's not good enough. He's not a bad keeper by any means and he seems to genuinely care about playing for us - I love him for it, but he's not that good of a keeper. I'm hoping this time next year we're talking about how essential Jan Mucha was to our qualifiying for the Champions League.

Nah, he's a super keeper. Those two saves in the first half at Villa more than balanced out his gimpy effort at Jagielka's header.

Moyes said himself this week that he wants Howard to have competition so you could be right there, anyway we'll see won't we? This Mucha cat seems to have good pedigree so Howard either takes it to another level or we won't be seeing mucha more of him.

Yes, I did type that.

I don't think it's the back four that has hurt Howard. USA has an even worse back line and he still does very well. I dont know what's up with him.

Yeah, I understand... I just felt he was more vunerable during set pieces, compared to open play, where an opposition player was placed in front of him. That was my initial observation, but then I did end up adding more to it :P

I heard a really bad joke the other day.

What do Tim Howard and Count Dracula have in common?

They both hate Crosses..........................

Nah , I weren't casing you , mate .

You'd nailed it with one word and a few q marks , for me .

I'm with Gwladys tbh , loves us , sure . But how good a goalie he is , for me , is the issue .

I went to Villa , Leader , an' HE DID pull off at least one - Carew , late first half , World Class save .
YET , throws another fukn baby - pass into the net in extra time !!!

Also , Anfield last year . Pulls off a miracle reaction save , 10 mins after Tin-Tin beats him from 40 fukn yards !!!

THAT'S all I'm sayin'

But yeah , gets it .

It would be interesting to see how many times he has been beaten from long range shots. His reactions are great , but i sometimes question his positioning at times.

if he makes a couple of errors after some 20 odd games then it's not that bad. Everyone's entitled to make mistakes. Petr cech hasn't had a good season. Gomes last season was a disaster for spurs. Even Almunia and Fabianski are two jokers you don't want. Their photos should be printed on the two joker cards in a deck of 54.

Howard has made errors but he combines them well with top class saves and has saved our asses numerous times. The Defoe pen, Mido pen, that cuellar save on wednesday. Then against Hull when Barmby was clear on goal all of a sudden..I'm forgetting a few others Im sure. He is very decisive when he comes to collect the ball, communicates well with his defenders and imo is the 4th best keeper in the league behind van der saar, reina, cech. It's not that bad. He kept a record CS last season so I don't see a point having a go at him.

Agreed mate, there is no doubt he is a quality keeper, can't get too angry because of a bit of bad form, when he was great for us at the start of the season.

It will be just the same as any other keeper in the prem, happens quite often.
