How will it get better next season? Surely it's downhill from here?

Eh, we signed stop gaps on the last mintue of deadline day in both his windows, like.

I'm far from convinced that doesn't have more to do with our fiances then our manager, if I'm honest.

We'll find out, I guess.
Fair enough.

I was sort of thinking back to the signings of Alcaraz, Kone, Deulofeu early on. Didn't appear to waste time, you know?

The scepticism is completely understandable given our previous in this area.

However, this year there's a genuine difference to those gone before, as there's an incremental £25m landed / landing in the clubs coffers. On top of the negative net spend in the last 2 windows, which was off the back of a stable financial platform, without bank pressure to repay the OD etc.

In previous years the lack of spend could be explained by accounts, the money simply didn't disappear, however this time round if there's not significant funds made available to RM, then the board have some serious questions to answer imo.

What I mean, is that I have confidence that he'll actually go after players as opposed to signing some stop gaps on the last minute of deadline day.

Quality I agree, remains to be seen but at least he doesn't to seem to "dither", as it were.

He appeared to be doing a hell of a lot of dithering the last 2 windows to be honest mate.

Look im onboard the Martinez train myself, I like the teams he picks, the tactics he selects, the subs he makes, I was even starting to like his soundbites and thought we had found somebody who wouldnt be an extension of the Board. But that Jan window has knocked me for 6, it really has.

He took a massive gamble and it backfired, we got utterly destroyed at Anfield, I aint putting that on him, as such, I think he messed up with the high line and it cost us big time, but these things happen, that vermin over the park score for fun and as soon as we lost Lukaku the game was as good as done.

We then played Spurs and looked utterly toothless, due to a MAJOR lack of striking options, that game was very winnable with a "threat" upfront, same for Chelsea, we switched off in both games and got punished, but it would have gone a different way if we had more quality in the final 3rd.

Whether that was in the form of a creative spark in the middle of the park or a real threat up top, he loaned an injured player, who has now got injured, we have sold 2 strikers this season, we then bought a terrible striker in the form of Kone who was terrible and then injured, we loaned Lukaku, who started like an utter train, but recently has looked un-interested and every year of his very young age, so I honestly dont understand the thinking behind loaning a very unfit, injured young striker, its beyond utter madness.

I said at the start of the season I would judge Martinez on his tactics, his results, but more importantly and the 1 thing I had concerns with, his dealings in the transfer window, he smashed his first window and we started with 3 draws and then BOOM, we took off. Then we picked up long term injuries to 2 very important squad players, Kone, no matter my feelings towards him, he was still an option upfront and he surely could only have played better then he started, Gibson, the only player within the squad who could play the number 8 role, why on earth werent these players replaced, with able, fit, talented players?

So thats 1 amazing window and 1 utter joke of a window, hes 1-1, this season is over for me, league wise, yes theres every chance of Europa, personally I think its gonna be a tough ask, but surely, our goal should always have been to break the top 4? Yes I realise its "his first season" and honestly if we finish 7th I aint gonna cry over that, but I personally dont think he did all he could to improve it, but ok, theres always next season, but I for 1 will be watching how we perform during the summer, do me proud Bobby, mug me off like you did in the summer and the first 6 months of the season, clown me Bobby, CLOWN ME.

p.s, Im aware we have an FA cup QF to play and possibly 2 Wemberleeeeeeeeee trips to look forward to, im not saying the SEASONS OVER, im saying I consider our LEAGUE SEASON to be an utter wash out.

tl;dr
Kone is pony, Bobby needs to put in work in the summer, we are gonna win the FA cup.

Sure, but last year we'd got Pienaar and Naismith pretty early as well.

We still did our biggest buisness, in both windows, on the very last day.

I'd be very pleased if things do change in that respect under Martinez but I'm one of nature's doubting thomases and I'd have to see proof that it has, first.

Ok, but I do at least get the feeling now that during a window we will at least sign someone - some Moyes windows I genuinely though we'd have make do with what we had - like, no signings at all to strengthen.

And you know I liked Moyes as much as you. I like Roberto a lot more though - I feel he knows what he's doing, however I can't quantify why, it's just a general feeling.

I think he was playing the long game in the Jan window. The target he really wants is not available until the summer so he put a patch on (traore)

Unless finances change, we will be in a transition of sorts every summer.

Looks like we will be using this loan system longterm, which means high turnover of players.

As long as RM know the type f player he needs, then I see no huge ploblem with it. We may have the odd off season though, so people should be ready for that.
