How to solve a problem like Toshiba

Hello.
Would anyone in Toffeeweb know how to get a a Toshiba laptop up and running again?
My daughter's laptop has a black screen and won't reboot or start in safe mode. Ive tried the reboot disc but to no avail and just get the screen all the time.
The laptop makes all the noises as if it's starting up but nothing.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

ok, put it in a nice warm bath with the family dog in aswell just to check if it isnt the Power Supply Unit.

You will notice if the PSU works if the dog dies.

Press the Fn and F6 buttons at the same time.

That will darken the screen on a working laptop.
The recovery disc is in and running but wont bring anything up.
The screen isnt broke because I guess I would hear the windows tune at the start up without actually seeing anything
