also when it is completely working again, you need to remove all anti-virus, firewall etc and spend a week downloading stuff, it tweaks the performance apparently. you need to have autocomplete turned on and all your details entered, passwords etc for the most noticable results

Any chance you've accidentaly switched it to an external monitor which would turn off the laptop screen ? holding down the Function key and pressing F4 at the same time is the toggle for that.

I tried it in on external monitor and it still wouldn't work.
However the problem lies with the lid settings.
