How to prevent Europe from ruining your season

Tbh, think we have the perfect coaching staff in place to cope with European football. Our fitness levels look very sharp under the current regime. Imo it will be a balance of keeping those levels up throughout the season and not overtrain. Think that's the problem with a lot of the old fashioned managers, they keep a strict training regime that sees players fade away halfway through a season. Our fitness coach Kluitenberg seems to have a good understanding of how to handle that added pressure.

Sincerely hope we take the EL extremely serious and will enter it to win it. If not, what's the point. Refuse to see it as a distraction but as a chance to add silverware to our trophy cabinet.

...it's all to do with psychology and the body clock. Teams seem to cope with Wednesday/Saturday footy in the Champions League so Thursday/Sunday shouldn't make too much difference. Just treat the Premiership as Sunday league football.

I'm not sure if it's accurate, but I heard that the season in which we had our highest finishing position in the Premier (4th) was also a season when we were in the Europa League but my memory is useless.

I hate us having to play Sundays though.

Have heard it, from a mate, that Collina has been asked to ref our opening qualifying game. Top ref that.

I'd be interested in the stats that show Europe has an impact. I reckon if it does it's barely there, just received wisdom nowadays that goes unchallenged.
I don't need stats.
Because of our pitifully staffed squads we always struggled in the league when in the EL.
I think we had one decent season. I believe we are better equipped now so I am a bit more positive about our participation.

I thought stats showed that europa does not affect your season negatively.
Either way I don't mind Sunday footy, you can watch the racing on Saturday and footy Sunday, win win.

Win the Europa League then we get CL regardless of where we finish and we get a trophy! ;)

I don't think Koeman will let them rest on their laurels though during league games. We are not Leicester. We can just do a man utd and get a bore draw away from home and then smash all comers at Goodison.

*obviously not lower than 11th.

We finished 17th the season before we finished 4th. But I don't think Europa has as big an impact as some do. It's just an easy excuse when you don't perform as well as the previous season.
