Just wondering how much the feeling on here represents the feelings of the wider fan base.

Not living in the city anymore its hard to judge on some issues, i personally feel that this forum is a pretty accurate reflection but again its hard to judge not being there.

A lot of members on here clearly don't go the match and are armchair warriors. Nuff sed ;)

Being in South Africa 9.5k miles away I dont get the true feeling of what is going on or being debated about Everton or other topics over in Liverpool / UK

I stumbled across GOT last November via Toffeeweb since then it is imperative I get my daily dosage were I can be updated on what I probably miss the most my love for Everton , I also find the crack and winding up ( been set up myself ) priceless .

I have deliberated and decided spot to which the poll states otherwise therefore looks like my view is misguided which is not an issue as said I am not in the know.

Admittedly there are threads that get heated and make you think twice before participating particular the Sam Allardyce issue were the majority are anti Sam , on this thread I have gone against the majority by daring to defend Sam to a point , this thread can have tit for tat posts which can escalate into the odd derogatory remark between posters however this doesnt really get to me as it was the norm when I was over there of football debates in the Pub or at the Match , also based on the numbers on GOT you are going to get divided opinions that can get heated

GOT for me therefore is a lifesaver IMO there is overall a great mixture of personalities , some that keep you entertained , in the main all highly respectable bunch of good people

That's not really a surprise given considerably more people visit GOT than pass through the gates at Goodison.

I cringe at the match going shout as if it's something of real significance or makes someone a "better" fan or give their opinion more authority. It doesn't.

It depends what the opinion is about surely?

I have been known to get quite annoyed on here when someone who doesn't go to the game tells me that the fans are too quiet, or that we're getting on players backs. If you're not there you can't possibly know, and therefore your opinion is invalid. Similarly if you're talking about the quality of football on offer but you're not actually watching it, what exactly qualifies you to give an opinion?

Obviously I agree that the opinions of non match going fans on more general matters are no different to those of people who go to 40 games a season.

I hear you but the sacrifice of time/money invested from people who go the match cannot be understated. People who go the games seem less likely to boot off online too as the bad experience is enough in person just saying.....

The views on the board are only representative of the person posting.
Some will agree with the opinion and some will not.
However, we are allowed to have different opinions and still get along.
It's part of being a grown up.

We'll have to disagree on this mate, though I appreciate I'm likely in the minority.

I'm "local", support Everton because I had no choice and have a season ticket. I also abandon my common sense and pay/volunteer a lot of time for this place. Does all that mean my opinion has any more authority or credence to say, an Evertonian who emigrated to Australia, who gets up at silly o'clock to watch Everton? Or someone who just can't afford to go the game? I don't think so.

All that said, most of the most active posters by post count on this forum go the game.

Sure, opinions on the quality of the food and beverage at Goodison is best from those who go the game.

On performances - often you get a better view of the game on TV than at the back of a stand at Goodison. I know that's true with me anyway but then my seat is a bit rubbish.

Yeah I meant more that not everybody will be watching every game on TV either, so may be going off highlights/what they read etc.

I'd also have to say that while you get a good 'view' of the ball on TV, you don't really get to see everything else that's going on. I'm often surprised by how good/bad a player is when I see them for the first time in the flesh because you see all the off the ball stuff that the TV can't show you. A player could make a brilliant run 10 times in a game but if you're watching it on TV it looks like they've done nothing if the ball never gets to them. Similarly in defence, on TV you might see a cross go into the box and someone get a header on it, but you don't see the full back getting sucked into the middle of the pitch by a dummy runner to create the space, or the centre half slip to allow the striker in ahead of him. Obviously if these things lead to goals you'll get a load of analysis on it, but if not you'll probably never realise it happened. I say this as a sad act who has been known to rewatch games on TV when I get home (only if we win though, so not often).
