How quiet can Goodison get?

I've been Everton fan for 23 years. These days there is something strange with English football. There are so few real football fans on the stadium, it became something as a tourist place. With Everton - it's like every year we expect something is going to happend but it ends with something like Sam. Can you feel the atmosphere?

Alot of truths in that statement and I also believe we don't get the right type of fan anymore. LFC have captured the majority of the scouse youth over the last 15 years, due to European success (2001 & 05) and having a legend like Gerrard and those fans now are in their 20s or early thirties. If you look at our support like I do when waiting for the bus home, most of them are bald middle age men (the miserable brigade), snooty sorts from over the water or replica shirt wearing birds.

Wow. Our fans are miserable, snooty sorts and replica shirt wearing birds.

LFC fans are the scouse youth, following the legend that is Gerrard.

Quite the hot take.

I think the quietish atmosphere at GP reflects the fact that the fans are totally absorbed in the football, ruminating over the set up and tactics. We are known and styled throughout the football world as 'the school of science'. The football we play is undeniably engrossing and when a fan is so encaptured and enraptured by the silky subtleties on display, he's bound to be a little less boisterous. So, if GP might seem a little subdued at times, I think that's testament to the quality being witnessed.

To be fair mate quite a few on here will agree with you ( me not included)

English fans can take the piss out of Scottish football. But one thing the Scottish havent lost, is the atmosphere at their grounds. In the past 10 years, the best atmospheres Ive experienced have been at Celtic Park, Ibrox, Easter Road, and Tynecastle. The other being at the Nou Camp, and Hoffenheim stadium.

I’m a simple bloke and reckon that most Evertonians, especially the match going ones who’ve sat in the same seats around by me for the last fifteen years or so are fairly knowledgeable about their football. Not just about Everton either, about the game itself. Whilst we support Everton we have views and opinions on football as a whole.

Goodison can be intimidating, the crowd playing a part in that. But, I’m honest much of the fare on offer doesn’t inspire the crowd - what are we....one of worst teams for chances created and shots on target? So, unless there is excitement and ability on show you are losing a key ingredient for the crowd to be involved. But....for me it is the absolute apathy and disconnect I and many others now feel between the club and it’s support base. No official communication about next year’s managerial decision, limited updated and progress on the stadium, early exits from every Cup we were involved in & a team of mercenary journeymen who may wear the Royal Blue shirt but few who would declare themselves an Evertonian.

To sing at the top of my voice, regaling every tune or ditty I know in raucous support of the club I support would be disingenuous to how I feel, nah, it’d be ridiculous actually. Get me involved again by presenting a vision of the Everton I was promised by the new Chairman upon his arrival, show me some desire on the pitch, perhaps some effort even and play in a manner that causes the opposition difficulty, I reckon I’ll be joining in with the singingin of tens of thousands of ours. But, as I say, I’m a simple bloke and the Club probably know better than me. It’ll be EBITA, % of earnings, amortisation, revenue streams that are the priority, not the fact do the crowd sing or not.

All said and done, I hugely admire the Club for its pricing policy of season tickets for younger fans - never seen so many young fans at the match than these past couple of seasons. So, perhaps my griping is unfair and it’s me and many like me who are the problem and the Club really do know better. I still can’t sing much at the moment though.

The lack of atmophere in football all over the country these days shocking. Only a few clubs in the whole of the UK have a consistently good atmophere and that's mostly down to success on the field and big match's. This is a result and the long term consequences of the premier league. Supporters are no long longer treated as supporters who's loyalty is of paramount importance to clubs but rather a nesseiry evil that clubs must endure, who are treated as paying customers purchasing a product and are to be exploited at every possible turn.

Big shocker, when you treat supporters as customers don't be surprised when they respond in kind, demand a better "product" for their money and not have patience for mediocrity.

The boisterousness of those crowds serves as a camouflage for the generally pretty turgid style of football on display. The more quiet contemplative crowds you get at places like Goodison is because the minds of the fans are being exercised by the sophisticated subtleties of the football on display. Libraries are quiet because people are intently concentrating on the material around and in front of them. I think Goodison is not dissimilar.

Goodison if Allardyce was here next season

Look at this fool everybody, this is how NOT to internet.

Noticed at the game today there was hardly any enthusiasm or encouragement let alone singing.
All the usual away chants, is this a library?etc etc. Then when you watch us on MOTD you can hear it's the quietest ground in the country right now.
So just how quiet will it get before somebody complains about the lack of noise or will it ever change?

It’s a bit like not hearing any Scouse accents at your Anfield mate which is full of Norwegians, Germans and Spanish....
