How many players will we sign this summer?

How many new players will arrive this summer?

I think we buy 3 players for something like £70 million, sign a free transfer ( all starters ) and 4 loans as squad players.

My guess is that the starters will be RB , RM , ST and CM.

The loanees FB , CH , GK and ACM.

If we can shift Patterson I could see us taking a punt on a young player who can play both midfield wide positions.

I badly fear Branthwaite will be sacrificed to enable a relatively huge warchest to fill the very many holes that will be in the squad.

Without him leaving, do we really expect the owners to be able (with the PSR rules) to spend money to bring so many first XI players to the club?

We need a starting striker, starting winger, starting full back at a bare minimum - all of which won't come cheaply. We also absolutely need a decent backup keeper, a squad central midfielder to push Garner to improve, striker (backup to new starting striker and alternative to Chermiti) and centre half (a fourth choice behind O'Brien, Tarkowski and Branthwaite). That's also neglecting the fact that even with those players we'd still be left playing Mykolenko if we just signed a new right back. Alcaraz will need to be bought, or an alternative number 10.

For all of those signings we'd probably need about 150m just as it is (8-9 players, of which 3-4 need to immediately come into the starting line-up). I don't think we can go from not being able to spend a penny to spending 150m in a single transfer window.

I desperately hope I am wrong and that we aren't in a situation where we have to sell our best defender for years. And no, this isn't doom and gloom, it's just a reasoned scenario that I see potentially playing out.

Aren't clubs limited to four loans?
Mangala, Lindstrom, Harrison, Broja, Alcaraz...
At least five this season.

I stand corrected,

"In the Premier League for the 2025/26 season, clubs are allowed to have a maximum of four loan players registered at any given time. No more than one of these can be from the same club. A club cannot loan out a player they have acquired in the same transfer window to another Premier League club. Also, a Premier League club can loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club."

Looks like we might need to buy a couple of keepers too !

We have a good lad on loan Tyler - we have a very good midfielder on loan at Derby Harrison Armstrong .....

We'll do a Howard Kendall: The magnificent seven. Let's hope we get more than one serviceable player from that (albeit, WHAT a player!).

With the Moyesiah now, and these new signings, we should be aiming for a magnificent seventh.

Might save us a few bob if they have good a pre-season in the States along with Chermiti who hasn't had much game time.

If Wolves get beat by Palace tonight hopefully Chermiti might get a full game on Sunday.

I think we need at least 6, but they have to be the right fit. Hopefully we aren't waiting for the last day mish mash and are able to do our business sooner rather than later.
We need strengthening in all areas, but pace and creativity in the midfield and attacking areas is a must.
