How many players will we sign this summer?

How many new players will arrive this summer?

Some folk voting 10+. Deluded. We won't have much cash, still strung up with FFP. No chance and if we bought 10 i can bet my life that they are all crap squad players.
We won't have first season Moshiri money but we should be less encumbered by PSR this year. We've got naming rights money, extra income from ticket sales and hospitality at the new stadium and a lot of big earners off the books. Hopefully we'll do some shenanigans regarding Goodison and the women's team (if it's good enough for Chelsea, it's good enough for us) as well. If we don't spend then I suspect that'll be a TFG decision.

I’d usually be against bringing so many new players in, but this is a different situation.

We have a small squad already and are losing, as it stands:

Begovic
Virginia
Young
Keane
Doucoure
Gueye
Alcaraz
Mangala
Harrison
Lindstrom
Broja
DCL

When you consider the likes of Chermiti and Armstrong probably benefit from loan moves and Patterson needs to be moved on. Depending on how many of the out of contract players are retained, it has be to be 8-10 in as a minimum. Not all marquee signings, a cheap back up keeper for example and 2/3 loans.

I would say about 8 in total and that will include loans and/or squad fillers and a backup GK.

Moyes has given some hints;
1. We can't expect a full rebuild in one window.
2. Experience is important (his opinion)
3. Everton have spent big previously and it hasn't got us anywhere. Maybe we're not "that" type of club.

I go along with the first point, agree partially on the second, and disagree with the third.

It's not hard to sign players. We signed enough last season with no money, albeit reliant on loans.

It all comes down to the quality of scouting. I'd rather spend on younger players from The Championship or abroad with the right attributes and resale value.

The links to Soucek do concern me. That's dead money for a limited playing return and no resale value. We might get away with that as a one-off but if that's the template for the summer, it will backfire.

I don't think it will be - but we really have to take a punt on potential and buy where there is value.

Kinnear seemed upbeat last week. Moyes has also been if generally more cautious. Fair enough.

I would really like to see a big improvement in the calibre of players on loan. Moyes was very good at that before and we need the numbers.

.

If you are talking about ready to make the starting XI or even game changing subs I would say not very many.

I will go for four such players.

Plus maybe another four youngish players and an experienced back up goalkeeper.

IMO it will be evoloution, not revolution.

I expect to see several contract renewals as well.

Its Everton, we’re gonna sign too few and hope to get away without too many injuries - then get a bunch of injuries and playing youth players whos not good enough.

Right back, right wing, alcaraz (i hope), centre mid (if armstrong isnt ready), 4th choice centre back (loan maybe?), someone who can play all along the attacking midfield. Left back, goalie
Thats - 7

We dont need to replace all of them

I voted 10+ just for shear boredom. That's one player or so a week until the new season. Should keep us ticking over during the summer.

I think 8 completely new.

Back up GK (and maybe 2 with another late 30s to replace Begovic)
Starting RB,
Back up LB,
4th choice (young, maybe S.American) CB, Ball playing CM,
Starting RW,
Starting ST.
Another forward (who can play across front 3).

But that’s also thinking we sign Alcaraz and maybe even Harrison.

This is the most probable outcome imo.
By my count we have 11 out of contract players and 4 loanees returning to their clubs, I've probably missed some too. If we only sign 3 permanents and 3 loans we're going to have to renew 9 contracts just to have a squad the same size as we have now. There will be unpleasant renewals, I'm personally dreading the inevitable renewal of Michael Keane's contract, but I can't see their being nine.
