Genuinely I couldn't care less about those rankings. England are fine, but do you really think next summer they're a bigger threat than Spain or Germany?
I hope not. My point was though, that just because they didn't win a game they expected to win doesn't mean they are somehow garbage. They are still one of the top teams in the world.
Given there are about 200 nations in fifa, I think it quite reasonable to class the top 20 nations as 9 out of ten, the next 20 as 8 out of 10 etc.

Well that is where the part about the tiny nations comes in though. Iceland being whatever they are is a 10 out of 10 for example. Hence why I think the rankings are pointless. England have more resources in their football than any nation in the world and as such should be competing among those teams. They're close enough which is fine but that Denmark performance truly was far from good enough and that brings these questions.
So, basically we are both discussing 2 completely things then. That's fine, as the original question didn't specify what to measure against.
Using my method, I would give them a 9 out of 10 for the reasons stated before, using your method I would maybe give them a 7 as they are probably around where I would historically expect England to be - unlikely to win a major tournament, but not getting knocked out in the first round either

Yeah that's fair and tbh I think that is where I'd have them too.
I also think the talent exists to be more than that but I'm not sure Southgate is bold enough to take advantage of the strength in attack they have.
