Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

I pondered the same thing after the Chewy/Evra case, surely the same rules should apply to anybody found guilty,at least in 2018 its no longer acceptable though, when you look back at the 70s/80s there has been massive progress
Big Dunc went down for assaulting an opponent if he was a fan he would of received a banning order.

The game has always differentiated between players and fans.

It was RS fans who trawled through Holgates Twitter history though not the FA or Kick it Out.

To be honest though once the allegations are out there does it really matter how it came about.
As for Holgate of course his age should be a mitigating factor but we should also take into account that there will almost certainly be gay or lesbian footballers at Everton and we shouldn't be picking and choosing what forms of discrimination we choose to oppose.

Getting back to Ferdinand he was quite happy to like a Twitter post labelling Ashley Cole a choc ice.

Yes, and it was the FA who announced they were investigating him - and Kick It Out who were accused of not being in touch with him.

As for the rest, it does of course matter "how it came about". Take your comment about Ferdinand for instance; that choc ice "like" and its associated reply was in relation to his brother being racially abused by John Terry, and Cole testifying in Court to back up Terry's absurd but successful defence.

As for gay and lesbian players at Everton, if Holgate has been using the same language to them he used at 15 in tweets then he should be thrown out of the club. I rather suspect that he hasn't been, however.

It doesnt make Ferdinand's comments about Holgate and the silence on the his accusation of racisim any less relevant.

Kickitout should treat Holgates' tweets the same as any other footballer who tweeted such at 16. I doubt he would use the same terms now as he did as a 16 year old. I know I dont.

The two claims shoud be treated mutually exclusively - they have nothing to do with one another or be used to diminish a charge of racism.

Exactly mate. The RS fans who trawled through Holgate's twitter history and found those remarks he made, they, for some reason now think that acquits Firmino.

You are missing the point there are practically no openly gay footballers. A large part of that is because we accept homophobic comments. We wouldn't expect a teenage player to be let off for a yellow card or red card challenge on the pitch so why look to excuse homophobic comments.

Discrimination in all its forms is abhorrent and shouldn't be excused.

Going back to Ferdinand he is a hypocrite he can't complain about racism and then like a tweet racially slurring Cole. Not to mention calling Moyles a faggot.

I'm fairly sure he went down because he had 2 previous convictions for assault and was in fact treated exactly the same as anyone else would have been.

Surely there should be silence until the facts are established though. Personally I think we should not prejudge things and let the inquiry take place.

As for kick it out surely they shouldn't be getting involved until the facts are established.

I have got friends who are fellow blues who have already decided that Firmino is guilty and RS friends who are certain Firmino is innocent.

Surely something as important as racism should be above tribalism. Likewise if it was a RS player who had made homophobic tweets I guarantee the likes of Davek wouldn't be looking to excuse it because of his age.

Some things are more important than football rivalries.

There is nothing stopping them contacting Holgate and offering support etc - unless the fa have told them not to which would be bang out of order.

He wasn't treated in the same way because he didn't receive a stadium banning order. If you ban racist footballers then you would have to ban violent ones as well. Fans and players are treated differently.

So should players receive stadium banning orders for fouls then, seeing as plenty of them are assault in the eyes of the law?

FA have quickly decided that Neville's tweet saying “Relax, I’m back chilled- just battered the wife!!! Feel better now!” was just banter.

Meanwhile we await to hear what their verdict is on 15 year old Holgate's tweets.

They should have thrown the book at him. He’s the worst.
