Sad news. like a lot of Irish people, I'm not a fan of the royals but have a lot of respect for the Queen, She's given her life to public service and done it with class and dignity.

The idea of a Republic is so satisfying and is what freedom should be about. I am glad that our founding fathers broke away from the British rule. However symbolic the British Royal family may be, it will always be a backwards principle.
