Henry Onyekuru

To be fair Niasse was no good anywhere. Tosun is a good player he just isn’t quick or athletic enough for the PL - nothing to faze Onyekuru then.
Niasse's record was decent though. You could argue he wasn't a good footballer anywhere, but his record in Turkey would compare with Onyekuru's, 12 in 34 for a poor side. His record in Russia was decent too, and the issues you've highlighted with Tosun are the exact reasons people say things like 'it's only the Turkish league', which you're saying people shouldn't do.

Well no, Tosun is a good player and a good striker. He’s slow but skillful and scores goals in Turkey. Onyekuru is quick, skillful & scores goals in Turkey.

If Tosun was fast he’d be class for us IMO. So by that logic I think Onyekuru would be a hit.

Right I see.

Back to Onykuru, if he’s wanted by PSG, plays for Galatasary currently (scoring two tonight) and we saw fit to sign him in the first place, he must have something about him.
That apparently doesn’t matter. PSG actually bid for Gana and STILL folks think he stinks.

And you're welcome to use that logic. I'm just pointing out that it's pretty ridiculous saying 'people will say it's only the Turkish league...' and then admitting yourself that the last player we signed who looked good in the Turkish league has flopped and isn't suited to the PL. Personally I think there are valid concerns when somebody's coming from that sort of league. Yes Onyekuru is quick and Tosun isn't, but there's a bit more to it than that isn't there. One of the reasons Tosun's lack of pace wasn't an issue in Turkey is because you get more time and space, and also more chances. Onyekuru has the pace but can he use it when he isn't given the acres of space he's got in loads of these clips that are being posted, and can he do enough over the course of 90 minutes to justify a place if not? I'm not saying he can't, just that it's a perfectly valid reason t ohave reservations.

The expectations would probably be higher for him here than at PSG.

How do you mean mate?

It's a crude point I'm making though I think it has some legs. We have players who are interesting the likes of PSG but the attitude of many of the supporters is that we are able to disregard the players.

I see it with Vlasic (who has played very well in both the champions league and Russian league) Holgate (who is one of the best right backs in the championship) etc. I do wonder at what level people believe us to be operating at?

Onyekuru is an Everton player and the club will decide where he plays next season.
I take little notice of all this hype about other high profile clubs being interested and the level of fees being mentioned, it sounds like agent talk to me.

No, but they are different. Onynekuru is still young, he certainly has plenty of development left in him just due to age. Some players also fit better in different leagues. It’s important to have pace and athleticism in England. It’s a fast league. So it might be safe to say he’d be a bettter fit. Tosun also wasn’t always a lone striker. Onyenkuru isn’t a CF, either.its tough to compare. But when you buy a player of Tosun’s age, or Walcott’s age to compare the other Allardyce purchase, they probably aren’t getting much better. They were also bought for a completely different style of play.

That’s what I’m getting at in a way.

Our fans seem to revel in writing off players, particularly young ones. It’s as if people take pleasure from being the first person to write them off. The amount of criticism DCL and Tom Davies get is a joke.

Holgate is an interesting one. I always thought of him being a CB but he’s probably not quite good enough for the PL. He could potentially make the RB position here his own.

Of course they're different, but that has nothing to do with the point being made. The argument was that people would talk down Onyekuru's return by saying it was 'only' the Turkish league, as if this was somehow unfair. All i'm saying is that it's a perfectly valid thing to do, as having a good return in that league does not in any way equate to having a good return here. Whether he's a better player or not is really by the by in terms of what's being discussed.
