Henry and Carragher...

I dig what you're saying but come on.

If one of us was a young footballer making his way and the RS came in with a bid heads are well capable of being turned.

And don't forget if cuts both ways.

Who is more pro Everton than Peter Reid?

Yet Reidy says he cried the night we won the title in 1970.....and not with tears of joy.

The late Gary Abblett served this club with distinction despite being a dyed in the wool Red.

David Johnson joined EFC.....twice.

As fans it is is easy to make statements that we would not play for this club or that club.....but the reality of life as a professional footballer, or an aspiring professional footballer, is way different.
David Johnson played for us twice but had a more successful career over the park. I went to an after dinner event a few years ago and 95% of his stories involved Everton and Howard Kendal.

Had this argument with friends many times. You can't be a 'real' Everton fan if you go and play for Liverpool. None of my mates can understand why the likes of Owen, fowler, carragher could stand on the terraces supporting Everton and then join Liverpool. I just couldn't look my friends and my family in the eye if I went to Liverpool. Does anyone else feel like this?

Dave Hickson played for Liverpool.

I remember reckon reading some where that he gave up any love he had left for Everton when they started the 'babies not yours' chants to his buddy Gerrard?

To be honest the game was different back then. Many fans would go Everton one week and Liverpool the next. They could afford to and there wasn't the intense rivalry that exists today. Liverpool are everton's arch rivals. I suppose Liverpool consider United their main rivals. I wonder if United had shown any interest in signing Steven Gerrard in his prime, would Gerrard have considered it? I doubt it.

That's very true. I don't think the RS have done any business with the Mancs (United) since I think Chisnall many, many decades ago. Silly really. Indeed there was a spell when I went to whichever Merseyside team was at home on a Saturday, and Tranmere Rovers on a Friday night( for a while Tranmere played all their home games on a Friday night) Its only when I started playing(in the Shipping League) that I missed games. I'll bet a lot of other Evertonians went to RS home games as well, but would never admit it. When I finished playing, I started going to lots of other grounds when Everton were away...even Barnsley and Huddersfield etc! Even went to Rochdale !! As you say, it was different then!(late 40s to the 60s)

40's to 60's?? Wow Steve, rather, Mr Wigan- you must have some years on you!

I didn't understand that comment either, most of the lads who come through for us are locals through the academy.

Their youngsters are poached from other clubs, i.e Ibe came from Wycombe, Sterling QPR...

Edit: oops, just noticed that was exactly what Darth was saying.

Read that we bought Davies off Tranmere...

75 ...not the oldest on here by a long way! Steve is fine...anything else makes me feel old!lol

You use a pc better than most ppl of that age I reckon! ;)

Know it's been talked about ad nauseam but I'll never get how someone like Carragher can grow up a mad bluenose by all accounts and end up a die hard red. You can play for teams and seperate it, loads of players have shown that. Even Rooney, it's pretty obvious he's still a massive blue deep down. Can't imagine him going on Sky when he's retired and tugging off Man Utd.

Rooney's always going on about how much he loves his club.

Not surprising, given that he's been there for 13 years.
