Heitinga

Hmm tricky situation. Did we block the transfers because they weren't offering enough money or because we wanted to keep him?

You know what you're getting with Jagielka and Distin offers natural balance. I am kind of surprised that Moyes has dropped our player of the year though. This season has to be make or break. If Davey prefers Distin then Heitinga has to go.

You don't play players to keep them happy, you play them because you consider them to be best for the job.

Missed the point.

Goat said he'd have to wait, the reason why Jags waited (he had been injured) is completely different to the way Heitinga had to wait, sidelined and played out of position for a long time.

Never-the-less, the point stands.

If our recent footballing revolution was more than a temporary flirtation Johnny would be first name centre back ...... so that's him gone then, nice while it lasted.

I know I read on here he's a huge blue , wants to fight or his place & wouldnt leave whatever , that's right isnt it ??

Does it though, what if at some point in time Heitinga playing is the most effective solution, but he's not in as good form as he would otherwise be because of lack of games/poor mood/left the club? Wouldn't it have been better to use a player that you don't see as the best for the job for one game so that they're still an option in the event of them being the best for the job in the future?

I think it is about height and physical presence at the back, If one of Jag or Distin had to be dropped then my pick would be Distin because he is more prone to a mistake and doesn't have the positional awareness that Jags has, the amount of times I have seen Jags clear the ball of the line for us is countless.

Also Arsenal are not the tallest at the back and they are the only team not to concede a goal this season.

But how does that make you a good defender ? The ball shouldn't be near the line in the first place.

I think here's more than a bit of Hibbert about Jagielka. In other words he looks good because he makes a lot of last ditch efforts when the reason he needs to make them is that he was already caught out.

He was a strong candidate for player of the season and we were raving about him at CB. He goes to the world cup, gets to the final, comes back, dropped.

Players get injured and he eventually gets back in at CB. He gets player of the year and people are raving about him again. He gets dropped.

I honestly can't understand why he's still here. If I was in his position, I'd have told Moyles all my favourite swear words and left.

For me he's easily the best of the three. And even if he weren't he brings calmness and communication that the other two aren't good enough footballers to bring.

He was player of the season?

So what? you don't expect a team to have a shot on target against us?

Me too mate, but i wouldn't blame him if he took a transfer to a team like Fenerbache. European football pretty much guaranteed.

I think people overstate how much European football means to footballers. It's usually just code for 'team with more money that will give me more money'.

If European football meant so much to footballers we'd see people queueing up to play for Celtic/Linfied/Basle and, indeed, Fenerbache. But we don't.

They love the coin more than love going to Ukraine on a thursday to play in a competition most of them don't really care about.
